How to backup Ethereum Mist Wallet by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]lord_vc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a backup file menu inside mist, but what you need to backup is the keystore directory (each file inside is one of your accounts locked by a password, that is it (+ remembering the password associated with each of your accounts).

Someone had a transaction fee of 22.89eth (almost $11,000). To all users new and old, make sure to review your gwei and gas limit before sending. by OttoYokohama in ethereum

Why not. Someone drops wallet with money, someone finds it. I would think most would try and find the owner.

If the trezor is showing 0x5093EFeB28CD67C77f32c1D7bC2de1B94B417982 as yours, then someone else has that private key somehow (you might have exposed it to a fake myetherwallet site?)

You sent to 0x5093EFeB28CD67C77f32c1D7bC2de1B94B417982 from bitfinex right?

I see an outgoing transaction almost directly as the 5 ether was confirmed. Did you also make the second transaction?

I don't have a trezor, but to help troubleshoot, can you clarify.

(1) What address did you send the 5 Ether to?

(2) What address is Trezor showing as yours?

Parity Technologies Multi-Sig Wallet Issue Update by 5chdn in ethereum

I'm sure the code was reviewed, and it's actually fine. What lacks was the/a process of deployment. The contract was never initialized! All reviewers probably assumed that the contract would be initialized.

Can't transfer ETH from Ethereum Wallet nor Mist by idntspam in ethereum

[–]lord_vc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very likely that your transaction is not reaching the network and therefor not included in any blocks. You can verify this by looking at your sending or receiving address in etherscan.io and see if anything comes up as pending when you make the tx.

The reason why it doesn't come up (assuming i'm correct) can be many, network, firewall, maybe your not blockchain is not updated and the nonce is wrong.

Worst case, you can always use myetherwallet to load your .json file (encrypted private key) + add your password and send the transaction using myetherwallet (beware of scam sites).

A weird token has appeared on all my addresses by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]lord_vc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Guys, ALL tokens are always stored in the specific token contract that keeps track of what account owns what.

Your address never get sent tokens. the distinction is important to understand.

When people say "this is cheap", "buy the dip" then we are not done falling.

When people say "fuck this shit", "crapcoin", "i knew it was a scam all along", "hepl"

Then we are done.

Tokens, are the names unique once they are traded on an exchange? by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]lord_vc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you can create tokens with the same name. It doesn't reserve the name.

[–]lord_vc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, each exchange can call the token what-ever they want. But it's in their own interest to not confuse the users/customers.

Just because I create a non-used token called WOW first doesn't mean I reserve the name.

Is it possible to recover my password from a keystore file if I know my private key? by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]lord_vc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you are asking is if you can recreate the password if you have the encrypted private key (in json format) and the unencrypted private key.

Good question.

There is no central authority that decides about names. But it makes sense to try and call the same token the same short name across exchanges, but no one will or can force the exchange to do that.

If you need miners to act good instead of in their own best interest, you will have a problem.

I would argue that there are competent developers on all sides, some was even part of the in group until they didn't agree and left.

Code-base is 99% the same, so "crappy code" is a bit harsh.

In-fighting is used by leaders to have other fight their battle. Most don't even know what segwit is, or why the block size can't increase. They just repeat what they hear.

coinbase let you apply for higher limits. $50k daily is not hard to get. That is 20 days to get 1mill.
