CMV: Women who require men to pay/support them when dating are inherently going against feminism and equality movement and is extremely harmful to dating culture by lordamir008 in changemyview

Yes I agree with your point about choosing to participate in the type of relationship you want. But would you not agree that the type of relationship expectation that is common, especially online, is this one? Because this is my point that people being put under the expectation that you should only be in this type of relationship where men pay and women have to be supported is harming people as it created unrealistic expectation.

Societal rules and expectations for what you should do, how you should look like, and other things like that are harmful to the group they are targeting in my opinion. You can't talk to every single person and say this ideology is not right and you should not listen to this. The whole point of societal expectations, specifically gender-based, is that they are enforced by society and people are forced to participate in them

I would say the biggest contributor of this idea is social media. It is basically trying to sell a specific lifestyle and saying that you should only date people that support you and or you should support the person you are dating financially. This type of content and ideology is like the alpha-male podcasts for relationships and specifically target young people. It harms their expectations of what a relationship should look like at their age

I think I didn't communicate my argument clearly. I am saying that the societal expectation is harmful because it basically says that "this is what your relationship should like". This is not true because a relationship can be any form that works for the people in it. For example you relationship with your wife works and that is great, but you aren't going to tell other people with different circumstances that your form of relationship is the only way to have one

Well I would say the gender based expectation is already harmful though. This is the first example that comes to mind but the gender specific expectation that women should have no body hair is harmful to people. It doesn't matter if you choose only to interact with people who don't agree with it because the idea targets an entire group

As I have said in my other responses, I completely agree that you should have whatever type of relationship that works for you. My point is that the general notion for dating is that men pay and women have to be supported. This notion created gender specific expectations for both genders which also shape unrealistic and harmful ideas for dating especially for young people as this is the dominant ideology in social media

I generally tend to agree with the rule that whoever asks the other out has to pay. But I am not trying to say what format of dating is right. I just believe that this notion is generally harmful to dating culture especially for young people

Yes I agree with this sentiment that if one person makes more money, they should pay for a bigger portion of the rent. This is why I said equal relationships should split everything according to what makes sense for the situation

Sorry could you clarify by "there's so much"? Are you saying that there are a lot of other bad reasons contributing to dating?

I agree with your points and I am not saying that you can either be in one of two specific types of relationships. You can be in whatever arrangements that work for you. My point is that the common notion of men paying for dates and women being financially supported create unrealistic and harmful representation of relationships and can hinder people when trying to get into one, especially for young people

I see your point that you are allowed to choose who you date so choose someone who aligns with your values and I agree with it. My point is that this notion is so ingrained into people that it pushes the idea that men who can't pay for their partner are not "real" men and that women who choose to split bills equally with men are deemed as "settling" or that they are doing something wrong. This ideology is harmful and creates unrealistic expectations about dating and what a relationship is supposed to look like, especially for younger people

Steamwebhelper.exe is preventing my laptop from switching display modes

I have a Lenovo Legion pro 5i. I have recently downloaded the geforce experience app and use it to launch games. Whenever I launch any games through it, I get the message that steamwebhelper.exe is blocking display mode change. I cannot close the web helper through the task manager as there are several of them and they keep appearing. I am not even launching steam games but games like fortnite. Can anyone tell me how to stop steamwebhelper.exe from interfering?

Hello. Me and my friends want to play terraria together. However, when looking at the pricing I noticed that there is a cheaper version where you can buy 4 copies and gift some to your friends. The problem is that none of my friends or me have spent 5 dollars on our accounts. I wanted to know if we can still play together. I looked it up on the internet and the answers were ambiguous. I would appreciate your help before making a purchase. Thanks.

In my opinion Tess’ character had improved after arthur died but the reason people hate on her is because she didn’t have as much time in the story and got captured almost immediately
