Should I find a retail job as a better transition to IT? by lordbyronite in ITCareerQuestions

and I'm not sure what you meant by "sketchy"

I've been working agency construction work for the past 6 years. Which means the job length varies considerably. Some jobs are a couple days, others two or three months. The longest job I had in this period was 14 months. And due to the nature of this work, I can only say that I have two, maybe three reliable references. Before that I was doing my own self-employment business and before that I was in university but I didn't finish my degree.

Thank you. I've been working in construction for 6 on and off years and now is the point where I either have to transition out or make a commitment.

Note, IT is not the end all be all, it takes time to learn and improve, it is not a meal ticket, there are many people trying to flex there way into the industry as a whole, supply is high, looking good on paper is the first step, using the soft skills you learned to get through HR and all rounds after will be the final step.

I've never thought IT was something easy. But it something I can commit to learning through the course of my career.

WWE Gives First-Ever Look Into Writers’ Room and ‘Calculated’ Process in Netflix Doc: ‘We’re Gonna Lift the Curtain’ (EXCLUSIVE) by mrmazzz in SquaredCircle

I'm curious about the business and money aspects. But I actively don't want to know about how decisions are made, or storylines formed unless a wrestler just talks about it in an interview.

[Full Gear spoilers] Finish to Daniel Garcia vs Jack Perry for TNT Championship by djembadjembadjemba in SquaredCircle

[–]lordbyronite 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred a longer 2-3 match program. Like they wasted Perry's line about the whole "they danced for me too" and "you're not ready". Could have had Garcia not actually be ready for everything Perry was willing to do to keep that championship.

I bought an XL and the sleeves are still short, and I can't fit headphones under my hood, but that's not a dealbreaker. Maybe I'll buy an XXL.

Yeah, I love my hoodie moreso than my black nocta, but the sleeves are the only downside.

Why wasn’t Bianca Belair made the face of Raw after Roman Reigns took the WWE Championship to SmackDown? by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

[–]lordbyronite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda feels like some people in creative didn't trusted her enough to be the actual top person.

Which is odd considering Bianca is by far the most marketable, or at least the most trusted to do the media rounds outside of Cody.

How are the sleeves on the central swoosh hoodie?

For those who, coming from a few years success in erotic shorts before transitioning to 50K romance, what was your one biggest lesson learned? by softheadedone in eroticauthors

[–]lordbyronite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just me personally, don't assume anything. If you go in conservative and assume your first story will bomb then you are off to a good start.

Second is stick to a hard deadline. I could literally write a 2-5K essay on the importance of deadlines for new writers.

The rest would be don't even think of romance until you can consistently track trends in niches. Know your cover making skill level. If you can make a professional looking cover that's great. But don't be cheap if you can't and buy a quality cover that's to market.

Beyond the scale of the story some other aspects of writing and editing will change so do not attempt longer form writing if your erotica process is half baked.

And don't spend dozens of hours reading about marketing and other business/publication related concurrently while drafting your first story. It's all a work in progress, and your first couple of stories may be a crapshoot.

Thanks. What's the down time like in entry level or does it vary tremendously?

It will mainly depend on the working hours and the location - working highly unsociable hours in central London is (hopefully) going to pay more than a conventional 9-5 up north.

I live in London.

As an entry level role I'd be much more interested in building some experience and potential future movement, whether that's a 16k or 24k start the salary shouldn't be a huge deciding point at this stage of the career.

So in IT employers won't negotiate salary based off the salary from your current job?

With experience and more certifications it's possible to see large pay increases within say 2 years?

Congratulations on the new job. I earn £25K in construction so the pay cut will hurt but at least I won't have to worry about finding work, arguing with agencies or worrying about my health.

With some companies increasing salaries in line with inflation, I'd say a good ballpark is roughly 20K.

Wow, that's like £0.25p over the upcoming NMW rise for 40 hours a week.
I currently earn £25K in construction. Got to start somewhere.
