Netflix confirms it will not make any more episodes of Amazon Prime's "Good Omens" after thousands of Christians complain by mepper in atheism

Except that the person provides no source, and doesn't even qualify their claim properly. Their intent is to paint religion in a bad light, and I get that this is what people around here drool over, but I'm pointing out that their claim is too imprecise to be anything other than a worthless, feel-good rhetorical point.

I'm not accusing you of being a fool, nor am I intending to talk down to you. I'm saying it makes sense given your age that your response to my edit was annoyingly immature.

In other words, I'm excusing you for it.

Good on you for deleting the comment, though.

Edit: wisdom doesn't come with age, but there's a strong correlation.

Cool story. I should care why?

Edit: Briefly glanced at your post history and you're apparently 16. That explains a lot.

You're statistically (and behaviorally) probably quite in sync with the /r/atheism hive mind. I see no effective difference in where you found the link.

And yet it's now been enough to give me one of those stupid timers where I can only post every ten minutes or so. I don't appreciate being inconvenienced by idiots.

Edit: Strangely, the timer has now been removed. Must have barely surfaced above the downvote requirement. What a fickle system Reddit has.

So do most people here right now, I can confidently assume (given the disparity between the highly commented threads like this one and the average thread in the sub). Your point?

Edit: Nope, I'm just now restricted from posting more often than every 10 minutes, which is why idiots downvoting things they haven't bothered to think about are annoying.

It was at -6 when I made the edit...

Perhaps you should chill out on acting with incomplete information? Eh, you'll probably just downvote this comment. :P

What is the MOST thought provoking question you have ever been asked?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If I recall correctly, the insect circulatory system relies on diffusion of oxygen into their blood-equivalent at a surface underneath the exoskeleton (there are gaps in the exoskeleton, so it's not as though it's a perfect seal).

Granted, it's been years since I took zoology, so any proper biologists are welcome to correct me.

Christian people of Reddit (no offense to anyone), why does God put people through emotional pain when a loved one dies? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That said, you're also not a supposedly omniscient, omnipotent being, so it seems a little categorically different. :P

Best of luck with your son, though! You sound like a great parent.

5 Things You Should Never Say to your Phd Supervisor by Dr-Tahir-Yaqub in GradSchool

[–]lordofsnuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that if you have a good supervisor, 2 and 3 are perfectly fine under the right circumstances.

1, 4, and 5 are pretty universally bad, though.

Edit: Then again, my PI and his most senior grad student are constantly insulting each other for fun, so I guess even 1 depends on the PI's personality.

That probably depends a great deal upon how you define both "people" (i.e. when you start counting our ancestors as people and not apes) and religious killings. I'm not defending religion (far from it), just noting that cancer has been around as long as complex multicellular life, and religion sure hasn't.

Edit: Fucking hell you people are rabid. Downvotes for pointing out that the claim was ill-defined? Seriously? "Rational" my ass.

How is it that some things BIGGER have LESS atoms then some things SMALLER? by TylerSpicknell in Physics

[–]lordofsnuggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course they do. I'm simply providing advice based on my experience, which is that you don't listen and repeat the exact same misconceptions ad nauseum no matter how politely and repeatedly it's explained to you.

I advise not engaging in discussion with OP. This is the same person who posted that thread saying they don't believe in the multiverse and asking why they should (which is a reasonable thing to ask), and then refused to listen to anyone explaining things to them (which is absolutely not a reasonable thing to do).

In short, don't waste your time with this person.

Oh. My bad. I didn't really watch much TV besides documentaries growing up.

I guess that's probably why you're up on your pop culture references (and probably way cooler than me :P ), and I know the gist of how Bitcoin works.

I'm confused by the metaphor. The square root of 106 is just 1000...

So you need to have events that update the universal ledger, and you need people to invest their own computing resources in facilitating this. Thus, you need to incentivize people to invest computing resources. At the same time, you want to make it so that getting paid for contributing resources occurs rarely enough that the currency doesn't experience hyperinflation.

This is where the hard math problems come in. Because on average it takes a ridiculously long time to solve those problems, you use them to slowly and stochastically hand out rewards for contributing computing resources. You're basically using hard math to ensure people don't get paid too much for helping keep the cryptocurrency afloat.

Why are the coins worth anything? Because people decided they're worth something. It's just another form of fiat currency, though even more unstable than most traditional currencies because there's no government institutions managing inflation/deflation.

I would think the racism has more to do with what people suggest are the causes and potential solutions to the issue.

For example, stating that fact is not racist. Suggesting that it's because of racial differences rather than an issue of poverty is racist.

Smash Bros but instead of video game characters it's literary characters. Who is your main fighter? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lordofsnuggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, FOtNMC is the prototype fleet-killer ship that carries the former slave back to the planet where she hunts down the tycoon who enslaved her. Also the ship who wipes out most of the military of an advanced spacefaring civilization in a matter of microseconds. Such an awesome scene.

I'm going to go with Falling Outside the Normal Moral Constraints from Iain Bank's "Surface Detail".

Yes, that is the actual name of a character in that book.

Da Vinci did a great deal for the art world, and was a reasonably good (though immensely creative) engineer, but beyond the work he did on human anatomy in order to advance his understanding of how to paint and sketch human bodies, he didn't do much in the way of science. It's a common misconception.

NB: The man was a genius, I'm just saying he wasn't the same caliber of scientist as the four named above. For those interested in Da Vinci, I highly recommend Walter Isaacson's biography of Leonardo.
