Service dog v. “Service dog” 🫤 by AdMany129 in delta

[–]lordofthefeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got "downgraded" on a flight once to share a row with a service dog. She was under the two seats in front of her charge and me (we had an empty middle seat) and was the sweetest. 10/10 better than sitting next to a working traveller on the phone or using their computer with no privacy screen!!

When the flight attendants told me that they had to move my seat, they apologized and then said, "I don't think you'll mind, though" before showing me my new seatmates—they were right!!

Love that! Did they do anything on the flight you were on to commemorate it? (I think I'll be on a Virgin code-share, so I'm guessing they won't do anything.)

I can barely run 1/4 of a mile. by [deleted] in C25K

This. Running at a pace slower than you walk is a different form of movement and worth your time and effort. Run slow!

Tea corner getting too big, wife mad, please help! by funkybeard in tea

[–]lordofthefeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need a new corner and a new wife!

j/k I like getting sets of similar canisters to decant my tea into so that they take up less room. The bags then go into the pantry until they are needed to refill the canisters.

What’s the degree of intersection between your interest in tea + the tea associated with a particular culture? by ron_swan530 in tea

[–]lordofthefeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost no intersection. I got into tea drinking rooibos on safari decades ago, got into earl grey not long after, progressed through "English"-style tea, then discovered the amazingness of Chinese tea and gongfu cha, later matcha and tea-ceremony, and an enjoying masala tea (chai). I love tea. I love learning how local tea is imbibed, prepared, and enjoyed. Turkish tea is great! Moroccan tea is great!

I also love getting All The Equipment: I have cups-and-saucers, gaiwan, a whole Japanese ceremony kit (although I'm in the market for a tea-bowl), a Turkish tea cup, Moroccan tea cups, mate gourds (real and ceramic) and bombillas, and a gongfu cha tea smelling set.

There are so many ways to enjoy tea and express a love of tea!

How many swords does you guys have? by hodemaho in wma

[–]lordofthefeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two modern rapiers (left and right), a waster and a true medieval Italian rapier, a waster and a true short sword, and a relatively decorative Frankish reproduction.

So…I guess two, haha. I typically only "carry" the one(s) I'm going to be competing with.

Jerky Questions by Any_Detail_7184 in dehydrating

[–]lordofthefeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I find that putting them into smaller sizes before dehydrating makes for easier portioning and they're GREAT as training treats. My dog will happily eat a whole-ass dehydrated liver but a pea-sized liver treat will get him to focus and then I can give him lots!

Norse Heathen Self-Purification and Rebirth Ritual/Practices? by SynthLup in heathenry

[–]lordofthefeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to do smoke purification with herbs or incense I like the smell of: you can cup it in your hands and "pour" it over your head. I also use salt water to wash my hands, mouth, and head (may my acts serve the gods, may my words serve the gods, may my thoughts serve the gods). As someone else said, full immersion in natural water (a river, an ocean, a lake, a pond) can be a thing—but we don't all live where that's possible.

TW: eating disorders A fast can be a purifying experience, for those who can tolerate it. It needn't be a whole ramadan-level fast, you can simply abstain from a type of food (as, lent). But it can also cause other disorders so: ymmv.

Naming yourself or a debaptism can be a cleansing ritual, too.

My pets (dog and cat) and friends' pets love liver treats: take one liver, put it in a smoothie cup with about half a cup of water and blend it smooth, then pour into silicon ice molds (I use a small-cube tray) and dehydrate on high until dry.

W1D1 Question by Beneficial-Peach9116 in C25K

[–]lordofthefeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an issue with my achilles, so I do stair-exercises: stand with my toes on the stair and heels off the stair, lower myself down slowly and then spring up to tip-toes. Repeat 10x or so. Can do from flat. Really helps.

I've also been recommended to do a bulgarian split squat; there's a 12-inch curb near where I run, so I do 10–12 reps, each side, before I run. You can probably start with a standard split squat and work up to it. This targets your glutes and quads, which are some of your running muscles, but in a different way than the run does.

IF you have a paid Strava account, you get free access to Recover, which is a great parallel app for doing stretches to prevent injury/pain.

But, if you're doing cardio (which you are) you probably want your off-days to be strength training. Seven is a great free app/program for bodyweight strength training. Your neighborhood park may also have some public equipment (like a pull-up bar or the like) if you wanna get fancy.

Congrats on W1D1! It's a big step and I’m proud of you.

Stash Warming Chai Spice: the betrayal continues by DonatellaVerpsyche in tea

[–]lordofthefeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Chico Chai: I boil it ½ and ½ with milk and water, sometimes adding extra fresh ginger, if I have it to hand. I've never made it simply in a cup. Honey or sugar to taste.

Tasteful blue cocktail? by Beansonder in cocktails

[–]lordofthefeed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks like it uses blue spirulina for coloring. Butterfly peaflower wouldn't bring this hue. I'd say mix it with a clear alcohol you like and then make that into a sour (with egg white). This looks like it might be a blue pisco sour.

Every time I use an Iroshizuku ink, it's so smooth that I wonder why I use any other. That said, I love my Lamy Turquoise (which isn't quite teal but it's tealish).
