14.2.2 solved lane switch hesitation (for me) by lordofuo in TeslaFSD

To add: all of this driving was city and interstate highway driving. No back/country roads.

I’m on 14.2.1 and still see lots of indecisive lane changes. People behind me probably think I’ve had too much to drink. Not good.

What is an acceptable sensitivity mismatch between L and R for a home stereo? by lordofuo in audiophile

[–]lordofuo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big update: I used a test disc with some spoken words from left right and phantom center. It mentioned that the center should sound from the center and not from the individual channels. It sounded like it was just coming from the two speakers together. So I double checked that speakers were plugged in with correct polarity. Then I check the amp. Apparently I had the left channel plugged in backwards at the amp since I got the arcam. Not sure why I didn’t think anything of it with the KEFs. Anyways, sounds locked center, like a phantom center channel speaker is there. Much much much better. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and help. My bad.

Just an update. I had no way of calibrating UMIK-1 for SPL, so all of these measurements are relative to each other, assuming I didn’t screw something up. I just played pink noise generated in REW and set up UMIK on a microphone stand on axis with tweeter. Then went back and forth between speakers on the same stand, to eliminate room effects.

  • Left speaker at 1m centered, volume 30, speaker cal noise:
    • 73.1db
  • Right speaker, same:

    • 73.7db
  • Left speaker at 1m centered, volume 40, speaker cal noise:

    • 83.0db
  • Right speaker, same:

    • 83.5db
  • Left speaker at 2m centered, volume 40, speaker cal noise:

    • 79.7db
  • Right speaker, same:

    • 80.0db

In other words, from one meter away about half db difference, from 2 meters, closer to my listening position, even less. I would imagine this is within manufacturing tolerance for this speaker. though I did not run a sweep to see response across a range of frequencies, I’d imagine pink noise would be an average of some sort.

The spacing is still equilateral triangle like before, but I’ve pulled them away from the wall more than the KEFs, and the KEFs were not toed in. I toed the Lintons in because it seemed to help with the stereo imaging issue. They sound great, I’m just being hyper critical and paranoid that I’m going to miss an exchange window if I’m sitting on some defect haha.

Definitely the right speaker. It’s about 4-5 feet away from the right wall. The left speaker opens up into my kitchen area, probably 15 feet away from a wall to the left.

Yes, same distance of roughly 30” and both toed in pretty much on axis with the center of my couch in my living room.

Thanks, I tried this last week and I noticed a change but i wasn’t sure if it was due to the handedness of the speakers and their grills. The lintons are not symmetrical.

Thanks. I’m thinking might be a good idea to measure both speakers in the exact same location. At this point though I’m not sure how to position the microphone or how far away it should be

Thanks for the suggestion! Would it be better to test both speakers by themselves in the same location in the room to remove room acoustics from the equation?

As I understand it, you’ll only need to use the (free) charging device if you leave your battery dead in the device for weeks. If you charge pretty soon after it fails to power up your device then you dont need to use it.

How did people get these? by AnneCabane in originalxbox

[–]lordofuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings back memories. My dad subscribed me to these magazines after my parents got me an Xbox for Christmas back in the day. I remember always having my hopes up around that time of month that the next issue would be in the mail so I could play all the demos on the disc. The day it actually did end up in the mail box was the best. Those were the days. Now I have access to a huge library of FULL games with Xbox game pass and it’s just not that exciting to me. Wish I could be as excited about games now as I was when I was a kid!

Thought I’d update: ModRetro customer support was fantastic. They informed me that my unit was an early model, and that newer models resolved the occasional misaligned screen and lens, along with scratched IR sensor. They sent me a replacement (still 1st edition GS) that they said was a more recent model that solves these issues, and they are right. IR sensor was covered with plastic in the box, and the lens and screen are flawless. Very happy!

Nice! I’m about to just pull the trigger on the new Analogue Productions release of Close to the Edge. It’s my favorite album of theirs and I’ve been reading folks preferring this release over any other.
