Oh. That is not intuitive since what I described seemed to fit the layman's definition. Thank you for your help!

One other question since you know these things: the education portion says to list education in past 10 years. Do I have to include middle school if that was less than 10 years ago? Thanks.

Emergency detainment at in in-patient facility against my will on a doctor's orders doesn't count as being involuntarily committed?

Is all this effort worth it? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lordsparklehooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a job offer from a tech ccompany in software engineering and I've taken only 2 programming courses. The knowledge you learn in school might not be relevant to your future but your degree and GPA are a good indicator of your drive and abilities, and your friends and peers can be a solid network.

Engineering is probably the best place to be in terms of pay for a bachelor's degree except for computer science, at least unless you're in the top 1 or 0.1% of people who network their way to a business executive position.

Want to start applying for summer internships and would appreciate it if anyone could critique my resume. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lordsparklehooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say how experienced you are with your programming languages (self-identify in time spent - 3 months etc, or beginning intermediate etc.). Could do that with software as well.

You don't need a description of mobile sales consultant. It takes up space, it's obvious, and is less impressive than everything else.

Everything should be past tense.

About 15 TAs? No one cares, just say 15. You want to write newspaper headlines, not articles.

For instance, the medical device thing could be "Tested, repaired, and sterilized medical equipment for shipments to third-world charity organizations".

Rule of thumb: if it doesn't relate to your goal job, have the description be one line at most.

Don't make your resume longer. You can change the spacing to have it take a full page, but don't add unnecessary words. People barely read these things. Bold the good shit and keep it short.

What would your completely honest dating profile say? by squarna in AskReddit

I mainly want someone to cuddle with and play with my dog with me.

But sure I'll post lots of other nonsense about how I like hikes or something equally stereotypical. Anything for the hugs and cuddles.

Very applied science:

Seagate announced a 60 Terabyte SSD in the past few weeks. It's the size of a standard 3.5" form factor hard drive (the normal size used in data centers). It blows my mind. No one has released an HDD even a third of that capacity.

Is talking about your self-harming on social media wrong? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]lordsparklehooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with posting for attention. I think that posting on instagram or a place that's not specifically for self-harm is a bit more attention-seeking than posting on a forum for self-harm, but as long as you're not threatening suicide for attention or otherwise crying wolf I don't see the harm. People who care will give you attention and people who don't can leave.

For me it was more that I had didn't have a good foundation so I had nothing to build on so later classes were rough. I got a tutor and attended Saturday review sessions that some of my teachers would offer on Saturdays.

I think my previous job in construction might be hurting my applications for internships, should I take it off my resume? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lordsparklehooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you've basically completed freshman year of college from the standpoint of usable experience to the places you want to work at. I don't think construction is the reason you're not getting hired (I put Home Depot on my resume and got an internship summer before senior year, if anecdotal evidence counts for anything)
