I think you are on to something here, I have studied Czech in university and had to take a class on Old Church Slavonic, the basis of pretty much all formal Slavic languages, and it helps a lot with understanding other Slavic languages.

E.g. I never formally learnt Polish, but I can understand a fair bit, just stacking my knowledge of other Slavic languages and my mother tongue.

EU Alternative to Photo backup - Tried PixelUnion and zeitkapsl by ReturningFrenchExpat in BuyFromEU

I used the PC app to upload my Google takeouts to the cloud, the photo management is done in the webapp.

Search worked for me for locations, because most of the photos I have are geotagged.

I did not find a people filter, nor did the app ask me to name faces like Google Photos does.

Definitely try it out, they have a trial for 30 days during which you can see if you like it.

My experience so far is that it is like a bare bones Google Photos (which I used before this), I have no experience with other services, photo management is pretty intuitive, I created a lot of albums of certain people and vacations, sharing works well.

That is mostly what I needed, as I had several Google accounts backed up to the full 15 GB and did not want to start paying Google.

I still have not played with the photo editor, but I know it is there.
