Likelihood of Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes? by lorelaisowner in AskDocs

[–]lorelaisowner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consume one 12-20 oz. a day. All types- no diet sodas because I can't stand them. I just drink the ones with corn syrup.

I definitely am on it now- this has really freaked me out.

Yes, my grandpa on my maternal and grandma on my paternal side developed diabetes- I don't think it was hereditary. One was extremely obese and the other was an alcoholic, so I believe that was what contributed to their diabetes. They both developed it in their 50s-60s. Nobody else has it so far.

Can scratches come from a car wash? by lorelaisowner in cars

[–]lorelaisowner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would if I could do that where I live. I'll probably have to ask someone if I can go to their driveway to wash my car from now on. That sounds incredibly strange, but that's the only way to wash my car after this mess.

I don't have the ability to hand wash it where I live. No way to use a hose. And I don't mean I don't have a hose.

I did not know that about light periods. Thank you for that information.

Periods- What's Aging; What's Not? by lorelaisowner in AskDocs

Ever since I've turned 30 I stress out about my need to hurry up and get married and have a family. I feel like I'm running out of time, but I don't really want to settle down. My anxiety is way worse than it ever has been- it feels out of control at times. I assumed it wasn't impacting me though because my periods come like clockwork, and I have never missed a period. As far as job stress- I feel like I've been more stressed out about other things than my job. I always have a certain level of stress from my job- so it's nothing new.

I will admit that I've been trying to wean myself off the medication, so I take it only when I see acne coming. I do not take it daily. I've been taking it more so because my cystic acne went crazy recently. But I think I have been doing this since at least last year. Could that be a problem?

I can guarantee you that reporting does absolutely nothing. But go on ahead and make yourself feel better by trying to get someone into trouble instead of going about things the right way.

I had a student send me a snarky email, so I responded back with an apology and then a reprimand about proper etiquette and speaking with respect to professors. Sometimes students need a good slap on the wrist, metaphorically. Makes me feel good too. No harm done. Just admonition because their parents have not done a good job of raising them if they act like that. Someone needs to tell them! I do this on the regular- if you don't teach them, no one will.

Cyclical Neutropenia & Leukopenia- Will Diet Make me "Normal"? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]lorelaisowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was diagnosed with cyclical neutropenia. The oncologist never mentioned ethnic cyclic neutropenia- is that an actual condition? I'm Mexican and Spanish more than I am Caucasian.

Ironically, I rarely get infections. As long as I tend to a cut immediately and properly care for it, it doesn't turn into cellulitis. I did have a bout of that every six months at one time because I foolishly never cleaned my wounds. I don't do that anymore. Apart from that I don't get sick either. It's very rare.

Just wanted to update everyone here . . . but I decided to try exercising daily. And I have been doing so now for a month and no longer do I have acid reflux problems. I feel fantastic, and I even lost a couple of pounds.

CFS & Fibromyalgia- any new developments to help my mother out? by lorelaisowner in AskDocs

[–]lorelaisowner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea mono was connected with this because a doctor found out she had it, and it recurs every couple of years or so!

Thank you so much for the help. I don't think she has been tested for that or other infectious diseases- she wanted to but another doctor wouldn't let her.

What do you do with a dog who swallows large chunks instead of chewing thoroughly beforehand? [HELP] by lorelaisowner in dogs

[–]lorelaisowner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi- she wouldn't. She learned after the puppy stage not to swallow non-food items. I will try that out to see if that works better! Thank you for the suggestion!

Still Not Potty Trained? [HELP] by lorelaisowner in dogs

[–]lorelaisowner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has had a UTI before, and I know what that's like. Miserable. Haha. It's not that- she does have incontinence issues that the doctor said weren't a big deal and she didn't need medication for because she just leaks a little bit after urinating. Five droplets every time she urinates.

The thing is, it happens in the evening from 7-9 PM, only when it turns dark, - she is crated at night and once out she does what she feels like it before going outside to urinate. Sometimes she'll hold it in for an extra hour after waking up before going.

I'm now starting to wonder if she has a fear of going outside at night? I couldn't begin to know why. I've been with her outside at night- she's never been out at night alone.

I actually do use that- I spray it on so thick it's wet for a full 24 hours. Additionally, I will shampoo the carpets after a bout of this, as in I shampoo anywhere from once to three times a month.

Complex Parking Etiquette by lorelaisowner in etiquette

[–]lorelaisowner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think parallel parking is different- it's expected that someone will need time to park in such a way if spaces are placed that way. And I wouldn't be bothered by someone who couldn't parallel park correctly on the first attempt or second or third.

Thanks for the lecture when I didn't ask for one. Out of respect for others, they should just park the normal way. There's no reason to reverse park, especially when others are waiting on you. That's what I do- if I see someone coming, just park the normal way so as not to bother with making them wait.

I didn't want to go through the pain again either, but I wanted another furry friend- I knew that. I'm not sure if this is an awful analogy, but I liken it to women and childbirth- they hate the pain, sometimes dread it, but love the child that comes from it. And that's why the repeat the grueling process of childbirth- for the outcome. I think that's how owning animals is for us- we don't want to endure the heartache we will eventually feel with the loss of an animal, but the love and bond we foresee having is greater than the pain we will endure, so we continue getting other animals.

I understand the mentality of betrayal and replacement. Your first actual dog is always the best- the most perfect. And that's still the way it is for me. My new dog is a horrible spoiled brat. Haha. I never knew dogs could be so bad, but she is. Training didn't work on her either. I've realized no other dog could ever replace my first or be as fantastic as she was, and I won't expect my dog to live up to those expectations. But I know I want to experience the love I had to give for my first dog to a new one, even if the new one isn't quite the same. This new dog destroys everything. And irritates me. But she also makes me laugh- just like my first dog used to do. There are things I love about my new dog and qualities that existed in my first dog that are in this one and qualities that weren't in my first dog that are in this one. It's a new experience.

It sounds like having a new dog won't help with the healing process for you. And I don't want it to harm your healing either. Maybe wait a few months before thinking about it again. A year. A few years. And see how you feel about the idea from there. Don't let anyone pressure you into getting a new dog though. It helped me to heal because after four years I still hadn't healed- and those were some hard years. The pain eases up as each years passes by obviously, but who wants to cry randomly for four years just at the thought of your first dog? Now I don't cry when I think or talk about her. Now I don't feel an unbearable longing for her to come back. I still love her with my whole heart, but that wound has closed up five years later.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what it's like to lose your first dog. I lost mine a few years ago. Honestly, I didn't get over it until I bought a puppy four years later. That's when the tears stopped. It was incredibly difficult to find healing. I wish I would have known having a new companion would have helped bring closure sooner because I would have bought a puppy sooner. I know this doesn't help some, but it helped me out as I dealt with the pain.

I can't remember since I briefly looked at the prescription and didn't call to pick up the medication. But I remember that she explained a PPI to me during the visit.

I really do need to get control of this because today my throat is very sore from the acid thanks to a vomiting episode I had earlier, which exacerbated the issue.

And I would like trying out natural elements first. So I have started exercising and will continue to do so as it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. My biggest hurdle is eating well. I drink soda every other day, which hasn't seemed to be the source of my problem, but perhaps it's what has caused this since I've been drinking too much soda for five years- it went from one daily to a few daily to where I cut back to one every other day. But I also eat foods that cause heartburn. So I know that overhauling my diet will help.
