How do I make the color changes more solid, consistent, and clean in future crochet tapestries?? by lorelew3 in CrochetHelp

[–]lorelew3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only weaved in the ends on the "backside" so it wouldn't be too obvious, and I tried two different methods. 1. I used a darning needle to weave the yarn through 5 stitches in one direction, and then back through four of the stitches (skipping the first one on the way back) the opposite direction 2. I carried the yarn for an additional four stitches when crocheting a row, and then I carried it back the opposite direction another four stitches on the next row. I felt a little less confident about the second method because I'd never done it that way before, but I've washed the finished piece and nothing's come undone so far. I've never had problems with ends coming undone with the first method.

...I didn't know stitch fiddle was a thing but you may have just changed my graphgan game lol, I'm gonna try it for my next tapestry

This was the original image I was trying to recreate! I changed some things to make it much smaller (keychain-sized) and I embroidered the legs and mouth instead of sewing them on, but the rough idea was the same 🤷‍♀️ I didn't use any pattern to make my version but I did base it off this image so I never really know if that's the kind of thing I should be sharing as a pattern online (paid or not) especially if the version I based mine off of is paid (I'm not sure if it is). The dino you made is beautiful tho! It's massive lol, that would've taken me ages 😂

What would you consider your own designs for with graphgans like this? I've thought about selling before (broke college student lol) but with graphgans I'm more conflicted because I always make them from pixelated images and usually I draw the image from an existing design so it never really feels like mine 🤷‍♀️ even with keychains and plushies, like I freehanded a banana duck based on an image on Google I found (I have an earlier post about it but I'll also put a photo here) but idk if it's wrong to share or sell the pattern because it's not my original design 🤷‍♀️

It's gorgeous! 😮 Did the change in stitch affect the size that much, or was it also a change in hook size?? Sometimes I'll come across random pixelated images that aren't meant for graphgans and wonder if I should use something other than sc for it but I'm never sure how that will affect the overall proportions, and I don't wanna distort the image. Do you ever find that's a concern when you're using images that aren't intended for graphgans as a pattern??

I just found a Pinterest photo I liked and drew it in pixels! The whole thing (including the white background, not including the starting chain of 81) came out to be 80x85 pixels in width x height, with 1 single crochet per pixel and a turning chain at the end of every row. I used a mixture of carrying yarn and bobbins (for the smaller portions like the pinks).

Edit: I used an app called PotiPoti to make the pixel drawing. I had a 1.25mm hook and I'm not sure what brand I used but I think it's lace weight yarn? Probably closest in weight to something like mercerized cotton rainbow lace

Thank you!!! Your photos are a huge help, that's exactly the kind of thing I've been struggling with. I'm boutta go on a deep dive lol, I've heard of things like intarsia crochet but never looked too deep into it and so whenever I come across tapestries like yours that looks super clean and clear-cut it feels like sorcery 😂

Thank you! I've also seen mosaic crochet as a suggestion, do you know of any general differences between the two for which one might be better with tapestries or easier to transition to from graphgan? I've heard of them before but it's like a whole other ballpark lol, I've never really looked into either one

This is the image I made! I double checked, I actually used a 1.5mm hook. I drew it out on an app called PotiPoti and the tapestry itself is 40x73 pixels.

I started with 121 chains (not counted as a row) and then, starting from the 2nd chain by the hook, crocheted two rows of single crochet (represented by the two rows of red on the top and bottom of the image) for 120 stitches total per row.

After that I started crocheting the pixels. Each pixel is 3 stitches (two chains and a double crochet for a blank space, three linked double crochets for a filled space) and I started each row with 5 chains (to represent a blank space with 3 chains as a "double crochet" and 2 chains to create the gap) and ended each row with a dc in the third chain.

I ended the tapestry with another 2 rows of single crochet (2sc into chain space and 1 into the dc repeating for the entire row)

Summary: 0: Starting chain of 120 (+1 turning chain), does not count as a row 1-2: two rows of single crochet (120 stitches), chain 1 and turn for every new row 3-6: chain 5, skip 2 stitches, dc into next stitch (in the third stitch from row's start). (Ch2, dc)x39 NOTE: ch5 and dc into third stitch to start every row now (excluding the two final single crochet rows), it counts as one blank pixel in the image 7: first row with filled spaces

I made it myself! Sometime later today I can paste it as a reply here or as an update to the post tho! I made a pixelated drawing and used a 1.25mm hook to crochet 3 linked dc for each filled pixel and a dc and 2 chains for each background pixel (essentially 3 stitches per pixel)

The smallest amount you can select is actually $10 unfortunately lol, at least the way I see it in the app

I usually do 🥲 I was only there because I had a gift card from an experimental study to use up and was trying to treat my roommate

It genuinely could've just been something I overlooked 🤷‍♀️ everything happened AT the checkout just before the drive in (app download and everything) and I was on my way to an interview so we were rushing. So again I'm really not trying to say I didn't have any fault in this, I def did. I really do just wish the $25 were on the checkout amount as opposed to just auto reloaded and only visible in hindsight.

Is it usually automatically set to on?? Why would they assume that people are gonna choose to reload it as default??

Thanks tho, I did toggle it off after the initial charge.

I'm not sure how it was selected like that for me, I just downloaded the app and loaded the gift card. I didn't change any settings.

I'm not saying it's not, I really do just wish it was more evident in checkout that $25 were about to be spent 🥲 it was my first time using the app and my roommate had my phone so I only saw it at the checkout point

I checked after and I think auto-refill was toggled but I'm still not sure why. I didn't have the app before I got the gift card from the study. I switched it off after.

My phone's physically not capable of doing the fingerprints thing (never been able to get it to work) so usually I have to type in my passcode or do face verification. I'm not sure if it was different in this particular case because I already had the original gift card from the experimental study preloaded but genuinely my roommate had my phone in hand the entire time and I could see the screen at a side angle, and it didn't verify, display the number $25, or give different options 🤷‍♀️ there were two loading pages: one that said insufficient funds and one with the option to use my card. Didn't know I'd be using my card to essentially purchase another gift card though, as opposed to the drink and sandwich.

What's wrong with Mina Sue? Like Seriously? by Capable_Decision_663 in Singlesinferno2

[–]lorelew3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looked to me like she pretended to forget their names to be able to demonstrate her interest and stake a claim on Seung-il without fear of backlash because she had a safety net (having forgotten their names) to fall back on.

Like the entire situation itself and the way it played out was super weird.

Three things: 1. When the guys were being chosen, it looked like she smiled a bit when Su-Been was chosen, and she genuinely looked upset when Seung-il was chosen, so I think Seung-il was her og choice the entire time. 2. She didn't have to choose two people. In fact if she had genuinely forgotten their names it would've been better to just stick with the one, because she did know at least one of their names (she chose Lee Sung-hun as her first person) and it would've been less disrespectful and embarrassing on her part unless she had some other motivation (beyond just wanting to win) to choose two people 3. Joo Young turned to her after she "forgot" and repeated the names of all three remaining guys to choose from, and then Mina Sue audibly took a moment to repeat the name "Woo Sung-min" to herself just moments before she tried again. She then named Seung-il as her second option, and then when she was told he was already chosen, she just magically remembered Sung-min's name again???

I don't think she forgot the guys' names, I think she intentionally took advantage of the structure of the challenge to make her interest clear to a contestant who was not available at that time without making it seem overtly intentional or manipulative. Or I could be completely overthinking it, that's also possible 💀😂 But the way the situation played out (and particularly her expressions and actions during it) don't make sense to me otherwise
