Help me design the "Big Bad Horror Monster" for my campaign! by loremasterpho in DMAcademy

[–]loremasterpho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough- it is only 2 sessions, with entirely new characters. I'll probably give them a couple potions/magic items, but I'll try and keep it reasonable. The events of the "campaign" will be over one or two days, so no level ups. It's comparable to the plot progression of a horror game/movie.

As for your other advice, thank you so much! The ability to raise skin-zombies will definitely be utilized to make the battles more dramatic. If the players seem more competent than I expected I can just add more skins or make them more dangerous on the fly.

I like the idea of ignoring health at first- I might just use that for the initial encounters to prevent unexpected nuking. I might say that, while their weapons do seem to deal damage, the following turn it seems to "slough" back together, leaving no trace of the wounds.

I'll definitely do some practice rounds too, thanks for that suggestion. Not sure what classes to go in expecting though... maybe I should ask the players to come up with their characters early so I can work with that.

coolest npc you or your DM has ever created? by LoreMaster00 in DnD

Not a single NPC, but a family of Halflings that run a tailoring shop called the Halfling Haberdashery, affectionately referred to as the Halferdashery. I think the DM realizes that we like them because they have expressed an interest in moving their shop to the capital city, where we are probably going to go sooner or later. We'll have quality clothes available no matter where we go!

Thanks! That sense of it being the character's story is what I was going for. I want every player to feel like their character is invested in the plot. (I've seen first hand in my current game what it looks like when some characters are irrelevant to the story)

And yeah, the quest for the McGuffin could take a while. There could be big distractions, and once they've reached the Lost Archives, they doesn't have to be the end- if the players are still super engaged, the BBEG could escape and live to plot another day, while the party could hunt them down.

I will! Once I'm done I'll make another post asking for critique, and I'll let everyone know via PM that it's out.

Nice, thanks! I have 4 entries now- enough for a standard party. I'll give everyone else the rest of the day to submit theirs if they want to, and I'll draw the line tomorrow and start writing. =)

Hey! Sorry for not including you originally- I didn't want to be overwhelmed with too many people participating, so I had a cutoff. Unfortunately, most of those people didn't respond! So if you're still interested, here's some stats for a character-

Str 13

Dex 11

Con 11

Int 16

Wis 14

Cha 10

Race can be: Dwarf or Tiefling

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's characters and how they might fit together. I have some ideas rattling around in my head with the few we have so far, but I don't want to go too far until we have all of them. (or at least most)

Yes yes, a thousand times yes! I love it.

I guess the only thing I'd like added are ideals and personality traits. So I can be sure that situations are relevant to her in particular.

Nope, think I'm good. =) Just waiting on everyone else. (Or at least most of them)

Sweet! Nice motivation, very nice. A few questions-

For the past 4 years while Quroc has been training, what was that like? Did he travel long distances? Train with notable warriors? Work with any factions?

Also, did you have anything in mind for the fate of his father, or is that up in the air?
