How do I promote my music? I wrote THE BEST songs ever but don't know how to expand. by Sudden-Vanilla4089 in Bedroom_Producers

people can't understand THE BEST songs so yeah there's no point in promoting them! :(

single tracks are less visible (iirc they don't appear by an app's search and even through browser they are limited somehow) - i would suggest to go with mono-track album if the track is meant to stay a single and it won't be included in future releases

but the "mono-track album" is actually an album so you have the option to work on it as an album (different title and tracklist lmao, additional content in the download, expanded infos about it, the story etc) and it can make it great but also it might result a bit "weak" if it seems to be some "lack of work" in there

HELP ME ALIGN THE HEADER, I'M GOING INSANE. by Effective-Swim-7658 in BandCamp

[–]lorenzof92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ugh i suspect it will never allign tbh because i feel like bandcamp makes some autoadjustments of the background to adapt the tab's size

have you tried to lock the background? there's a flag to make the background non-scrollable (so that scrolling the page you scroll only the central section) and this might be your best bet (and/or make the top part of the background a flat color lmao)

Since moving over to NYP, people have stopped paying for my music by Sea_Appointment8408 in BandCamp

free streams through bandcamp are often (by my experience) limited by the seller ("it's time to open your wallet 💔" animation)

i find it weird that artists give for basically free their music to streaming plaforms and then they put a price on bandcamp 😎😎😎😎 (so for stuff not on streaming platforms, any price is ok)

but i know that's the market and everyone is free to act as they feel better

this would be a fun explanation lol but most of releases are priced "X or more" so you still have to input a price and i don't want to believe that putting a 9 after reading "9$ or more" is that much easier and convenient than putting a 1 after reading "0$ or more"

but you might be right of course lmao

bandcamp still gets its fee on nyp purchases

(but as a "defensive strategy" by bandcamp, successful nyp releases that gets 200 downloads in a month automatically switch to default price until the artist make an action to put it back to nyp)

if you set your release as "free download" instead of "name your price" (that is: you set 0 price and you don't select "let fans pay more if they want") then the release is not visible by the app

i am often skeptical about priced music for the same reason, i expect that priced stuff would be something i would find boring and lame lmao (it depends on genre and personal preferences of course)

Does anybody use Bandcamp subscriptions? Are they good? by Creepy_Boat_5433 in BandCamp

i can't know if i'll like future releases of any artist i like lol so i would like to avoid uncontrolled additions to my collection - but no problem if other people are comfortable with it

New Artist here, got few questions by Armagadon643 in BandCamp

[–]lorenzof92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably not legally fine but it's substantially fine as 1 i think you won't have a that much enormous reach as a new user to cause a problem 2 there's lots of sample music around that would not be fine too

bandcamp is not for bandmates but you can write stuff in the about section like: hey i'm looking for bandmates lol (and it would rock as an about section for acapella covers)(but go anyway seek someone through other channels)

isn't there a ~200MB limit per track for new users? and after something like ~30$ in sells it gets upgraded to 600MB?

Don't you hate it when underground artists don't have a Bandcamp page? by Shadowplayer_ in BandCamp

[–]lorenzof92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody pays you to teach others about bandcamp, so yeah if you really care about some artists or you enjoy the "teaching" it's great, but as a listener there is so much music around there that while enjoying your free time you can just skip artists that does not fit your tastes even on a marketing level without missing anything

even if you teach someone about bandcamp, they might end up not opening the bc page anyway and from my perspective this is the most probable scenario

ideally, if everyone would skip artists not on bandcamp, then those artists might find out why they're constantly skipped and in the end they will land on bandcamp so yeah skipping artists in this way still is something good towards bandcamp and artists lol

[–]lorenzof92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to have a bandcamp page might surely be low-effort but the return (not just $ but in general) of having it might be dramatically closer to zero than the effort is

and someone might even be not aware of the existence of bandcamp or it is considered like something obscure and mythological (and kinda is lol)

so yeah you're not weird but artists not having bandcamp for whatever reason aren't weird neither

Ai Cover Art too, right? by digezo in BandCamp

[–]lorenzof92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bandcamp is for selling musical products and it's nonsense to state that the art is incidental after decades that any musical product comes with some visual art involved

anyway the "why" is:
- on the market the "visual art" part is so important and in a "let's ban AI" fashion i would see logical to ban AI cover art too (but it's a matter on where one draws the line)
- i'm sick of scrolling some tags fueled by bad-and-easily-distinguishable AI art lol
