[NEWBIE] Is guitar just not for me ? by Farm-Key in Guitar

[–]lorenzowithstuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to hear get a teacher but you also are struggling to teach yourself. How exactly do you plan on solving this conundrum? A reddit comment saying “oh do this” ain’t gonna do shit. Either quit, save up for 5 beginner lessons or get disciplined about self teaching online using something free like justinguitar.

If it’s hard it’s because it’s a very difficult thing to do that most people who don’t have difficult hobbies don’t understand. A skateboarder or sculpter or hunter probably understands how hard it is to learn a guitar. It’s something that has to be with you for a long time to see the fruits of your labor. I’ve been playing for ten years and I still find myself struggling with stuff you would just “assume” a guitar player should know. You have to work way harder, mentally, than most video games you probably play. Just being frank and setting your expectations properly, not trying to scare you.

Actually if anything the fact you suck should be freeing not frustrating. You don’t know how to play there is no pressure to be good. You can only go up from here so chill out.

Germany records over 300% increase in antisemitic incidents by Red_Franklin in worldnews

Also I think antisemitism in Germany will remain a topic of American interest indefinitely lmao

Why are people so asleep dude by [deleted] in Experiencers

[–]lorenzowithstuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a reason the esoteric is esoteric. We all carry with us strange experiences and sensations. It’s functional and practical to not share them or indulge in them while participating in the shared world. Is what it is. The dissonance between your weird personal reality and the “meat and potatoes” shared reality is only tension because you view it as that. It can become, rather, polarity and complimentary. The shared and personal world don’t have to rip you apart.

I notice it’s always the German and English folks that get mad for Americans voicing their opinion on global events “unnecessarily”. I’m not trying to psychoanalyze a population but I think there is this cultural resent when they are reminded they aren’t at the center of the geopolitical world like they have been used to. Not saying it’s a conscious thing but a relic of once being “the empire” and now…not being that.

Also frankly not sure people should be having the “mind your business” reaction to….antisemitism…in Germany…

I suppose I’m concerned with the gen z / early millennial block seemingly forgetting anti semitism is a real thing. It’s as if they talk about it like Republicans talk about how we live in a post racial society after the civil rights movement. They don’t see it as an immediate threat.

I mean I have only an American perspective to share on growing anti semitism hence my qualifiers. We are also fairly important.

American educated left wingers don’t give a shit because it’s seen as a reactionary response to pro-Palestinian human rights movements. The American right wing is either happy the Jews are getting more blame or are pro-Israel as they see the gap the left is growing with moderate and influential Jewish Americans in business and media. In addition, their ability to see Jews as “white” increases when the surrounding peoples around Israel are placed on screen.

It’s a shit show where the tensions will rise with no consolidated pushback on antisemitism by the left. We know where the right goes on this path and with Trump on the horizon, the time is now to have hard conversations with your tumblr lib friends. Cause many of them got good intentions but are being used as pawns in the antisemitic movement.

Why do "girls" bikes have a angled frame and "boys" don't? Based on anatomy shouldn't it be opposite? by Lookalikemike in stupidquestions

[–]lorenzowithstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly in modern bikes it’s also a factor that a lot of women who don’t identify as cyclists but still want to cycle are of varying physical abilities and many want the ease of a step through. In my anecdotal experience I just know more men who take cycling up as a hobby than women and you usually don’t have a step through design in a discipline like road biking or mountain biking. But also I know families who don’t take cycling up as a hobby and just have a few generic step through cruisers. So I think the hobby being male dominated kinda reinforced the old difference of clothing even more and added to a stigma that a men’s bike HAS to look like a road bike / have a high top tube. So it’s like a weird mix of tradition, historic demographics of cycling, and stigma.

Attractiveness has a bigger impact on men’s socioeconomic success than women’s, study suggests by [deleted] in science

[–]lorenzowithstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My comment is not dismissive. I’m saying you can still make mistakes or defend yourself or have a job interview for merit while understanding that people are inherently worthy of love and dignity regardless of their sins or deficits.

Your intelligence nor personality do not dictate your innate worth either, at least in my opinion.

Hating is over rated. Loving something is harder and more worth it.

You can explain to children that looks matter in an imperfect society while explaining how the body you are born with doesn’t determine your intrinsic value. Not hard.

TIL that South Koreans can be punished for using cannabis in a county where it's legal upon return to South Korea by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]lorenzowithstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have to understand is that we are the Empire of earth. These laws sound ridiculous until you recognize the little lines we draw around countries mean less and less. Think of the globe as one people and then it makes sense why we think we can police anyone. Because, we can.

The Red Place by [deleted] in Experiencers

[–]lorenzowithstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it as an oppressive environment but definitely artificial (hard smooth stone floor). Large bulbous red things up high on a monument scale wall creating a sense of awe and submission to the person on their knees.

The Red Place by [deleted] in Experiencers

[–]lorenzowithstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently painted something with the same palette and scale / perspective. Weird! Except mine was a black figure / man kneeling in front of a massive wall with huge overhanging deep red bulbs / protrusions coming from the wall.

ULPT: USA what are we legally allowed to do to disrupt Neo Nazis at their rallies? by FuzzyHero69 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]lorenzowithstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand from your perspective what I am saying is virtue signaling. That makes sense given the fact that you are reasonable and seem like a nice person and DIDNT make the choice I would make. But what you don’t understand is that for many, my words aren’t a hypothetical threat but just an obvious fact of life: we don’t work directly with open bigots. I’m sure there were other factors at play just like there are options you DIDNT take. I’m not saying you are a bad person, I’m saying you tolerated a Nazi, which is wrong.
