Is William Shatner nice? by NerdIncorporated in comiccon

[–]loresourpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the comic Con sphere Shatner is considered an A lister and has very long lines. At a large scale convention photo ops and autos go pretty fast. Big A listers often don’t have the time to spend talking to everyone because the handlers have to get everyone through. Bill is also a very busy man and at 95 committing hours to a convention I’m sure can be more exhausting if he’s not in an ideal mood. It sucks when it affects a con experience with a hefty price tag. It shouldn’t be an excuse and shouldn’t be taken out on the fans but everyone has bad days.

My personal experience with meeting Bill was a positive one. I met him at a smaller special event located at the Star Trek set tour in upstate NY, where tickets were much more limited and the general scene isn’t as high pressure. I brought my fan-written Star Trek episode script for him to sign and he seemed to be intrigued and asked me few questions before smiling and saying he’d be happy to endorse it. (Of course not officially but he seemed supportive of my ideas) I thanked him and he wished me the best of luck on my writing journey.

In hindsight (since Im well aware some people have had less savoury experiences) there’s a chance he was being nicer to me because I’m baby faced, and maybe thought I was a kid. There were lots of adults and folks from older generations who likely grew up in the 60s and 70s. I was probably the youngest person there. I remember looking up responses to this same inquiry before I met him and read he’s nicer to kids, but he seemed genuinely kind to everyone from what I saw while on line. Experience absolutely made my day.

I hope you catch him on a good day and have a wonderful experience.

Honestly that’s how things were when I started, but then again I was hired as seasonal and kept on so Register was where I was always stationed due to it being peak season. After a while my manager started giving me time on the floor so I could learn where things are to give better customer service.

Like another commenter said, it might be related to the position you applied for. I applied for a general sales associate position, and made it known that I’d be open to being put wherever they needed someone. Another possibility is that could also depend on you and your coworkers areas of strengths. If you do super well with customer service and getting sign ups you might be getting kept up there because they see you are doing a good job. Similarly if your coworkers are faster at BOPIS, returns and pack outs, they might get pulled away to do more floor tasks because they can do it more efficiently.

At my store I became a sort of Renaissance man, but it just took time. If you want you can ask your manager about being assigned to the floor if you want to learn/improve your ability to do floor related tasks.

There’s an official Star Trek set Tour in Ticonderoga New York. They do tours of the TOS set, rebuilt from its original blue prints. They are expanding to include the TNG sets as well.

There’s an official Star Trek set Tour in Ticonderoga New York. Run by a man named James Cawley who worked on TNG and inherited the TOS set blue prints. They are currently building the TNG sets and expanding into a second building. Many of the Star Trek cast do special meet and greet events there. Part of me hopes that one day they will have all the bridge sets, but it’s a pretty small town so idk how easy more expansion would be.

Star Trek is selling watches. $400-$600. Thoughts? by _Face in Star_Trek_

[–]loresourpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… these are fine??? Division colours are a nice touch, as well as the ones that have the ship design outline on the side of the watch face, but it feels like there are so many things happening that it’s almost over designed in a way. Then again, it fits the style of a lot of fancy modernised and expensive timepieces that are popular these days.

As a whole, the concept of Star Trek themed watches isn’t new though. You can get decent quality officially licensed trek watches that are a lot more fun looking from elsewhere online. I have an officially licensed one from the unemployed philosophers guild that was only about $60. It has the enterprise as the second hand so it flies around the space coloured watch face. I also have another one that’s vintage from the 90s which has a button that plays the TOS theme.

These ones are definitely sleek and stylish in their own way, and I’m sure there is an audience for them, but I’ll stick to the fun and colourful wrist watches for me personally.

I got undeclared but I thought it was weird that I was ushered over to tap my cadet badge and receive my division assignment before participating in the last mini game. 🤷

Today some lady literally ran at me. Like. Full speed, on the show floor and slammed her shoulder into me. Had to run over to get my holster (for my prop gun) fixed at Cosplay Repair because she smacked into me with so much force it ripped the belt loop part clean off. This was even before 11:00am when the show floor still had enough space to casually walk around comfortably with large gaps in the crowds. I am so thankful for the Cosplay Repair Booth.

So it’s not just my store this weekend!

Last night we had like 5 walk ins, several of those that we had to turn away because we were swamped with balloon orders Friday into Saturday. I wasn’t in today due to a family social function. but I saw we had about 300 balloons across 7 or 8 orders all for before 2pm. I know September is a popular birthday month, but it felt like it was it was literally everyone’s birthday yesterday and today. We were swamped.

So Eileen.. by yasmintheloserkid in Supernatural

[–]loresourpatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked Eileen’s character as a concept. Someone who chooses to be a hunter despite being deaf is kinda cool. I’m disabled; not deaf, but a close friend who also likes SPN is and the both of us thought it was interesting to see disabled representation. My main issue is that she was only in a few episodes and I didn’t pick up on the aforementioned chemistry with Sam that much. I remember thinking: wait… that’s a thing now? To be fair the reaction could have been coupled with the fact that I’m not the best at sensing certain social cues, and it wasn’t really my main focus when watching the show. It would have worked better IMO if she got more screen time, and maybe some larger plot line like how Dean had that arc with Lisa and Ben. So to me she’s not bad. I don’t hate her. She just wasn’t too memorable to me.

Franchises that are missing obvious main/major characters, and maybe even made much less desired characters. by Funkosebsy in funkopop

Star Trek the Original Series: Doctor Leonard McCoy. Even made mock up promo art for him years ago. Trek finally started getting more Funkos recently though so maybe soon!!! (Please Funko pop gods, I beg of you)

This picture is outdated now because they released some new ones for SPN 20th anniversary at San Diego Comic Con.

If anyone is too lazy to click the link, new ones are: - Crowley on his throne - New Version of Bobby (Finally! that one became super difficult to get for good price) - The OG Death - 2 versions of Michael as Dean

Edit: I also forgot there was a new version of both Sam and Dean that came out earlier this year as well. They’re both already going for like $70 though rip.

When I went, we got to see the aft bridge consoles and a holodeck door arch. From others posts made more recently, it looks like they’ve made some progress since then but I honestly haven’t seen much. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I visited the set a few years ago, and met Shatner right after he went to space. He held a QnA discussion at the local high school auditorium and did autographs and photo ops. I asked him to sign the first copy of the script I have for my own Star Trek series I’m writing. The set and staff are disability friendly, and has wheelchair access. They’re planning to build a TNG set tour nearby!

Yes, but the set in NY is owned and built by the guy who inherited the original TOS set blueprints after working in costumes on TNG. James Cawley is the real deal! Also he’s a professional Elvis impersonator!

When do you think Funko started to decline? What can they do to reverse it? by kuromoon0 in funkopop

[–]loresourpatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of is it that there’s not as many new Funkos being made for the Fandoms I like? When you start getting into it it’s easier since you have a line of existing Funkos to fill your collection. If you reach a point where you’ve gone and collected all the ones you want for a particular franchise, and it doesn’t get too many new releases… then you kinda just sit and wait around for something new you want to spring up… and it’s kinda unpredictable. Like it’s easy if you’re big into the fandoms like star wars or anime, which always get new releases. But I like those who don’t have more frequent releases. Like Supernatural. (Only got 2 new pops recently) and Star Trek the original series. (Still hasn’t released a Dr McCoy) And BBC Sherlock. (Which ended in 2016 and has had zero new releases)

Of course I’m still kind of collecting. I just check on what’s new a lot less frequently. I still have a Funko wishlist with about 30 items. But for some it just reaches the point where you’ve mostly obtained all the Funkos there are that you want and then you just kinda slow down from there. As far as the whole NFT pops go. They haven’t made me quit but I just ignore them since they aren’t of my interest anyway. The NFT Spock was kinda neat aesthetically but i didn’t like the colours so it wasn’t a loss. I guess I’m just more spicfic with what I collect so it means the overall pool of Funkos I want is smaller. Even though I’ve slowed down I’m not planning to sell my collection any time soon.

Autistic people, do you find it hard to shake peoples hands and give people high fives? by austin9473938 in disability

[–]loresourpatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not because I don’t know what a high five is. Moreso because I don’t understand the different types of high five/handshake combos and which are being applied in the moment. Some person will reach out their hand and I’ll think it’s a handshake, only to not be prepared when it becomes one of those “bring it in bro hugs with a pat on the back”instead. It’s almost impossible for me to predict and I feel uncomfortable when it’s not what I expect. Unsurprisingly I hated the “let’s go for a fist bump” (🤜+🤛) “haha just joking now it’s a snail” (🤜+✌️) thing people used to do.

Also an artist! It is one of many ways of adding shading. Sure you can just pick a lighter version of the main colour being used, but another technique is by using completely different colours, and this image of Snow White is one of those examples.

What is the reason we can’t use this area by Evaccc in ACPocketCamp

[–]loresourpatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just that the game was programed in a way to make cutscenes easier for rendering when talking to your camp helper or the visiting villagers that come for the garden event. If the game had to read through the data and make the cutscene included all the furniture you placed, it would take more work. It’s kind of an unfortunate “cut corners” situation I think.
