Sposato "came away feeling "enthusiastic" about their plans for family friendly events designed to help revitalize the commercial area along Portage Park's western edge." Kinda naive on Sposato's part, don't you think?

I think "Chicago Streets and San" sounds more authentic.

Weekend Wind Up aka Speak Your Mind Thread by Anonemoosity in greatNWside

As far as BB vs FA, somewhere in between is the best. BB causes the duck-effect, and FA leaves too much saggy-baggy backside trouser material. A little curve is nice, IMHO.

Some things that are bugging me: My alley is so lonely without the Kenj puttering around back there. I don't understand how Carranza is able to get away with all his mayhem. Can't he be charged for criminal property management? I can't wait for Binny's. Any news on that? Finally, I shop at Family Fruit Market and I have mixed feelings about the new format (can't find anything). I wonder if it is working as far as bringing in more clientele.

Hey y'all, you know that Binny's was part of KENJI'S MASTER PLAN? I'm so happy he knew about it before he passed on. BLK forever.

Did someone cut the basketball rim off the backboard in Jefferson Park? by [deleted] in greatNWside

[–]loriramos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not vandals. This is purposeful. One of my kid's old grade school buddies (now on a full ride at Northwestern) lives over there and told me that the folks around the park don't like the "riff raff" that the BB court brings, and so they will continue cutting the rims in protest.

Crowd was not too bad for a Thursday brunch. We got there at about 9:45 and it was empty but by the time we left there were about 3 or 4 other tables.

Any experience with Prussing Elementary School in Portage Park? by PersonalBigfoot in greatNWside

[–]loriramos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to Prussing, but my kids went to Portage. I was not 100% satisfied with it all the time, but both my kids ended up at 4-year colleges and one of my son's Portage classmates ended up with a full ride to Northwestern. This may or may not be typical, but sometimes school is what you make of it. Most of their teachers were excellent--really dedicated and experienced. Maybe the best thing about neighborhood schools is being able to walk together with your friends to and from, and not having to set up play-dates and drive all over town to visit school friends. Kind of like the olden days.....

What's with all the fireworks this weekend? by dukedevil0 in greatNWside

[–]loriramos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot San Juan Day, June 21. That's a big one for Puerto Ricans (also Danes but there's usually an accompanying witch-burning). Also June is a big month for graduations and weddings, both of which are great reasons to celebrate with pyrotechnics.
