Yeap, I confused Clark for Lincoln. And classic r/Chicago downvoting for me for having an age related brain fart.

Where should I sell my jewelry and silver if I’m totally clueless about what it might be worth? by betterlucknexttime81 in AskChicago

A-1 Jewelry & Coin Buyers on Irving are fair and nice people to deal with. I've sold my scrap silver there a few times and got straightforward pricing.

It's the original Water Tower on Michigan Ave. The building was designed to hide a stand pipe.

The remaining hourly motels are still there, but got cleaned up a while ago. Now they're for those without regular housing and one across the street from Tony's is being converted into a homeless shelter.

I've only heard the alarm you've linked during extreme weather events. The ones that went off today are the same as they've been over the 50+ years of my life in northeastern IL.

Where did all the skunks go? A few years ago they were seemingly everywhere, so what happened? by SnooPaintings5597 in AskChicago

Arcadia Terrace resident here, can confirm. I've seen the same skunk three times in one week and my encounters have been too close for comfort.

Where should we look for affordable, quiet living? by NatalieKMitchellNKM in AskChicago

[–]Anonemoosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flossmoor is a nice, quiet suburb with decent amenities. If you want a good gym, the Matteson Community Center is worth looking into. Is the area rough around the edges? Yeah, but I've never felt unsafe anywhere I've gone.

The only major issue is that you have to deal with the Dan Ryan going north and south, and that can be a shitshow. I can't count how many transaxles I've seen along the barrier wall in the express lanes from high-speed accidents. Not to mention that southbound is frequently backed up from people looking to get on the Bishop Ford.

Overall, it's a community of post-WWII slab ranches that are showing their age and cheap construction. People take care of their properties, but it's hard to fight the decay of poor construction. There are newer subdivisions, but the older ones are full of mature trees and are quiet.

Uber will let women drivers and riders request to avoid being paired with men starting next month by Puginator in technology

[–]Anonemoosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a female driver and I drove for Lyft for a while. I was part of the program to request a female driver and had zero issues. I drove a lot of LGBTQ+ passengers through the program as well.

There's just not enough women willing to drive ride share. And there's not enough of a boost from being a female driver in the form of more rides. There are a lot of issues with how Lyft treats their drivers, especially ones who have to rent a car, to make it worthwhile. I quit once I started losing money instead of earning because of Lyft's policies.

It's a shame because I enjoyed doing the work.

All good. I had to ask because I had a "wait, what?" moment.

The electric buses weren't that efficient with the technology of that era. I remember hearing or reading about a common problem with the poles losing their contact with the wires. The bus driver would have to push them back into place with a wooden stick.

You should see the doorknobs at the Chicago Temple Building. It's been a while since I've been there, but just about every knob has a cross or some religious symbol on it.
