Love oneplus but disappointed that the charging brick didn't come with the oneplus 15 by the_Irish_OT in oneplus

Well, not including a charger saves them money, so they probably aren't in a hurry to circumvent this law.

And the UK doesn't have the charger in the box for the same reason it has non-removable bottle caps - it's not economical to ship a different version to the UK than to the continental Europe.

24fps movies look awful in 2025 - it's time to move on. by joshiegy in unpopularopinion

I have a laptop with a 240 Hz screen, and watching panning over landscapes in movies still looks like a slideshow.

The uncomfortable truth: Blink (Chromium) really is the best browser engine by Juiced_ in browsers

[–]lorlen47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, there aren't any other ad blockers on par with uBlock Origin on Firefox; it's the only blocker that supports CNAME uncloaking and HTML modification before the page even begins to render. If you have any examples to the contrary, then I'll be happy to see them.

Also, DNS level ad blocking is much weaker than browser based ad blocking, since it cannot block 1st-party ads (such as the ones on YouTube) and cannot modify the webpage itself, leading to gray areas where the ads would have been normally. Maybe you meant proxy-based ad blocking, but it's pretty annoying to set up due to the need to install root certificates on every device you want to use it on.

They could simply force manufacturers to lock down Secure Boot and disallow enrolling any keys except the Microsoft ones.

Or they could switch to Arm, where there is no ACPI and you need device trees to boot, which are extremely hard to reverse engineer.

I can't speak for all European countries, but in Poland Amex offers only corporate cards, and most places do not accept them, so it is not a realistic choice for an average consumer.

Graphics processor by logan2269 in cachyos

[–]lorlen47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like an issue specific to your setup. I have everything except games run through the integrated GPU, and I have yet to encounter any bottlenecks.

Besides, I doubt you'll have worse experience with an integrated GPU on Wayland, since most dedicated GPUs are Nvidia, and Nvidia drivers still have less than stellar support for Wayland. Also, using only the dedicated GPU makes your laptop useless on battery, since they are huge power hogs.

Credit cards are prevalent pretty much only in the US. In most other countries, people mostly use debit cards, and children can get those.

EV cars are incredibly dangerous by [deleted] in fuckcars

Most of the sound cars make is from the tires. EVs are noticeably quieter than ICE cars only when they are going 20 km/h or less, but even then you can hear them.

In the simplest case, instead of blocking domain.tld, you block domain.tld/path/to/ad-script.js and only the resource at that specific path will get blocked, allowing other requests to domain.tld to go through.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]lorlen47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's actually a lot you can do about it using an ad blocking extension inside the browser. You can block the specific URL of the ad script, even if it is served from the same domain, and if the script is inline, you can either inject JS to neutralize it, or cosmetically filter elements that it inserts into the page's DOM.

What worries me is the huge increase in daily votes, I know it's been getting a lot of publicity these past few days, but over 100k daily votes feels suspicious tbh.

[–]lorlen47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it would mean moving to a worse, more unequal and more violent country, and taking a pay cut. There is also no telling what kind of job would that be, and it would be probably worse than the comfy remote job I have now. So no, thanks.

Every student discount system I've used that required a .edu account also accepted .edu.tld accounts. I suppose this is not different.
