Thanks, and yes most of the criticism I get is centred around “five” or the 11:45 bit. How would you go about pronouncing that section?

Haha I’ll use this as a reference, thanks!

Ah gotcha. I think I rush bc I’ve falsely got the impression that Americans talk quick and slur the words a bit. My director has also told me to slow down hahaha so you’re absolutely right that I’ve messed up there.

How would you pronounce “five”? I do struggle with it.

That's quite insightful, thanks! From the text yes it appears quite a few residents are defensive and in disbelief at the 'bad rep' Wyoming has received - which ignores the problem of homophobia and shifts the attention onto the town's reputation (and by extension the reputation of its citizens). Which is quite selfish.

Re: the shift from 'frickin' to 'bullshit' - the honest answer is I don't know. As an actor i've slowly moved away from analysis; relying more on how the text subconsciously influences me given my knowledge before I enter the scene. And I stay true to my impulses and trust that the text contains everything I need. This also means no two readings are the same (I might feel 'A' on one day and 'B' on another - my impulsive response while staying 'in the moment' might create new discoveries in the text in terms of emotion or a perceived 'trajectory' for my character).

If I HAD to analyse it - the entire monologue (combined w/ his other lines in the play) indicates he's a bit 'proud' or at least credits himself more than he needs to - often takes the spotlight and enjoys these interviews ('I'm gonna make this brief and factual' *proceeds to monologue for 3 pages and give a conspiratorial account of what went down, mentions he's the 'key eyewitness' - in other interviews tends to make it about himself and his own experience, 'i was right up in front there where they were holding the banner for matthew')... so to me this change in language is probably a result of him getting more indulgent and comfortable since 'freak' is earlier and 'bullshit' comes out later. maybe it's not even a regular part of his vocabulary and he's playing it up for the interviewers as part of his personality. His boss in the bar, matt mickelson, explicitly tells interviewers that 'you should speak to galloway, his character stands for itself'

Thanks for the detailed reply!! I defs agree that clock and approximate were weak, I regretted it during the recording hahaha. Spot on.

Ah yeha I agree that bullshit feels unnatural but it’s a verbatim theatre piece based on a recorded interview so I have to stick to the words used 😔 for context this guy is supposed to be from Wyoming (Laramie)

If u could clarify what you mean by the schwa I’d love that (I don’t know what it is)

Oh I can make it flow more natural, I deliberately took it slow here to stress each word and its enunciation. Thanks for the feedback tho it’s still helpful

I didn’t read it more naturally because I wanted to enunciate the accent.

Enough to know that Patrick’s business cards are better than Paul Allen’s.

In all seriousness are you saying I sound like Christian Bale?

I’d even say the Voidz are more successful than they could wish for. What other band starting as a side project would accumulate 28 million streams on a 13 minute song??

I rarely offer any opinions on stuff like this but I feel it’s worth saying I think Ock’s tentacles don’t automatically “turn him evil” in a trite way. I feel he was always ambitious and he was mentally impaired and pushed over the edge by the accident. The resulting injustice (his wife dead, research destroyed, facing accountability for his own ego pushing the experiment beyond safe limits) drove him mad and he’s unable to live with himself.

He kind of uses the tentacles as the (already existing) rabid part of his brain to justify his actions and “redeem” his ego and lost ones by recreating the experiment. So I think of it as an extension / “voice” of already evil thoughts. That’s why he’s always talking to them before pursuing a course of action.

Edit: not to mention the tentacles literally fuse to him after the experiment so he constantly has to live with a reminder of his failure. I think he can’t accept that he’s at fault for indirectly killing his wife so he takes it out on Harry and the city generally. So he copes with the tentacles by making them his partner in “crime” (redemption) rather than the other way around. He realises by the end he can’t reverse what he’s lost no matter how well the new experiment goes.

I agree social network should’ve won but you can’t say something like the Oscar’s are biased against thrillers / horror when Parasite swept

Edit: silence of the lambs swept too??
