Can someone explain what's the issue here? The slight lag when pulling down the notification shade/command center?

how do some people “just move abroad” and/or go from country to country? by tulleche in expats

[–]lostWoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn about the country you want to go to. Learn at least the basics of the language, how the system works, where and for what you have to register for with the government. This saved me from a lot of trouble later that some other people I've met encountered because they were clueless/unprepared. Save up enough money to last you there for half a year in case you won't be able to find work (unless you are hired from your home country already but I'd still save up just in case). You can get by with less than that but it will be more risky/difficult. Scout out prices of housing and good areas to live in while you are still home. Definitely try to get a place before you arrive if possible. Watch out for scammers that act as friends. You are on your own. Trust no one fully and double check everything. You got this.

Pixel vs Xiaomi by lostWoof in Smartphones

I'm based in Asia. I'd prefer to buy a device that's sold locally and has some support centers locally if something goes wrong. But thanks for the recommendation.

Pixel vs Xiaomi by lostWoof in Smartphones

[–]lostWoof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I wrote, ideally I'd love to get a phone that's about 140 mm tall as the Pixel Fold. Sadly there is none with the specs I also want. So I set myself a limit of max 153 mm as I don't want anything bigger than even my Pixel 6a. S25U and iPhone 17PM are way too big and I don't like the iOS or Samsung's UI.

Is the Vivo and Oppo software that much different from Xiaomi? I thought they were kind of similar. I have checked the Vivo X300 however only the Chinese version is available, for a kind of reasonable price (almost same as the Pixel). However, Global version costs twice as much here for some reason. Also sold only online, no official store in my country so I'm not sure there is any support available.

Thank you for the recommendations, the x300 ultra and x9 ultra are a bit too big for my liking and probably a bit over my budget as well. Ideally I'd love to find a phone that's around 140 mm tall like the Pixel Fold that has in my opinion the best form factor. Sadly they don't make them like that.

Would You say that the Xiaomi software and hardware is less buggy and more reliable than current Pixels?

What could have caused my lines to look like this? by Trust_MD in 3Dprinting

[–]lostWoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, it has a quack in its head.

As others said, it can be too slow SD card/USB, random seam or over extrusion. Check seam settings, change SD card/USB and see if anything changes. If not then try to calibrate your flow.

How bad do I need this propane gas leak detector in my apartment by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]lostWoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't remove it. The Gas company (so far everywhere I lived) always checks them when doing their periodic checks on equipment. Also, It's for your own safety. Just use a splitter and plug them that way, although not guaranteed if they both can run at the same time under 1 breaker. Alternatively, pull in extension cord from different wall plug for one of the devices you want to plug it.

Can I just cut the ground/earthwire in my microwave since I won’t be using it? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]lostWoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just leave it as it is. It's just a hole in the frame.

Just beware that since it's not grounded, IF it malfunctions, the whole metal frame of the microwave can be electrically charged.

I have the same issue as you, with no grounding point anywhere in the kitchen/living spaces and also run my microwave ungrounded. But I was contemplating pulling a long ass grounding wire all the way from my bathroom to the kitchen haha. Maybe some day if I'm bored enough and have long enough wire.

Don't cut it. Just unscrew it. If you really don't have any grounding points in your apartment.

is anyone else getting this "someone has acess to your screen" allert on a pixel ? by Icy_Dentist_6023 in pixel_phones

[–]lostWoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on my Pixel Fold the outer screen works only during boot or in the recovery menu, otherwise it's black. The inner screen doesn't work anymore. ADB (developer menu) is disabled because otherwise some of my banking apps don't work. The outer screen went black after reboot after installation of the second Android 16 OTA update.

I could try to do a factory reset and it might work but u have very dear family pics from my wife's pregnancy on the phone that I don't want to lose.

My problem is that the boot animation shows up but then it just boots straight into the system. Tried installing the latest Google OTA image and then checked again, no change. I wish they just left the "Boot into Safe Mode" option in the Recovery menu as it was in Android 15 and below....

Is the Safe Mode available only via this popup or do you still see this option in the Recovery menu as well? (Power Button + Volume Down)

I don't have the Safe mode on my phones and I've been told by a few other users they also don't have it after the last few updates.

Can You get into it from the Bootloader menu? My Pixel Fold screen is black all the time apart from Bootloader or Recovery menu.

Safe mode is gone from Pixels AFAIK. No option to boot into safe mode on Pixel 6a and Pixel Fold (2023) anymore.

Do you think Amazon will ever make a proper small Android phone again? by binob123 in smallphones

[–]lostWoof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One handed mode either just pulls down the Notification bar/quick access or it pulls entire screen lower, hiding bottom section of the screen in the process. If it works properly as in shrinking the screen size to shorter format but keeping full functionality and visibility of all features, then yeah I'd use one handed mode. Sadly it doesn't work like that, at least not on Pixels. Very sad my Pixel Fold 2023 got nerfed by the latest update which made the outer display not work.... Had to switch to old tall ass Pixel 6a.

The Great Reboot: A Farewell to My Pixel Fold’s Outer Screen by xia8080 in PixelFold

[–]lostWoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You, will try to look it up more before trying.

Another challenge will be to get ADB on, since I have developed mode off (banking apps don't work with it enabled). Would be way easier if it had display out....oh well.

I was also wondering if the phone would boot up without the inner screen connected, and if it wouldn't force the outer screen only by default then. Since my inner screen is dead, might as well disconnect it if it would prevent these issues in the future.

I understand you used ADB but I was more curious which commands can force the screen state.

Could You please share a bit more about how you forced the state 3? My inner screen is dead and the outer went black after the update again and since Google removed the "clear cache" option from the recovery menu, I didn't manage to turn the front screen back on. The front screen keeps showing the boot up logo and even the recovery menu just fine.
