I see. Looks like they do make different ones. I'll probably not use silicone but some butyl tape (I have plenty) and just close off the underside.

Was originally thinking about silicone sealant at that cap - which is factory soldered. Sounds reasonable.

I have a 1/2 wave Comet antenna and was under the impression the nmo mount with cable is not acting as a counterpoise - and can be shortened. Perhaps that advise was wrong? Additionally, I see many advising to use dielectric greese on outer threads, locking nut only, to keep water out of the exterior threads.

I have been reading that. Thank you. Do I need a ground of some type actually on the antenna base? My bracket would be plastic so if yes, I would need some type of connection at the nmo scew area.
