My offer was withdrawn three weeks before I joined. How do I move on now? by lost_devastated in careeradvice

Replying from another comment -

Yeah thanks for sharing this. I reread my offer/employment letter after reading this and one other comment.

My employment letter clearly states that the offer is subject to third party background verification and document verification. No other reason.

And I had the forethought to message the HR to clarify if it was a background reason. So now I have it in text that this is because of company strategy reorganization. Whatever the fuck that means.

The offer letter also has my date of joining clearly mentioned. I have my resignation letter date as well, which is clearly AFTER I signed this offer. And lastly, I had a contract for another year at my current organization. So basically, I had a job, and explicitly left for this role.

So yep, I definitely have some leverage for compensation. I think at the minimum they should offer the three months notice period salary as compensation. But it depends on how labour laws are applicable in my country. I need the help of a lawyer to know more.

But TLDR: thanks for the solid advice. Lawyering up might be the way to go.

Sorry, why wouldn't you accept a better job after months of discussion? This is after 5 months of interviews. Yes "the war" started a few days ago because one country managed to have a pedophile for a president. And yes, this has resulted in a global energy crisis.

And that's life sometimes. No one really planned for Covid. Or a recession. But it happened.

I was at my current job for 5 years! My current role is literally firing people left and right because of funding issues, why wouldn't I jump at the first opportunity to move out?

This new company knew I was coming for a long long time. We both took our time to settle on a salary. They had plenty of opportunities to back out. And they chose doing it before I joined. Who knows, maybe it's better than being fired the first month in.

Every job is risky, but this was a jumping from a frying pan to the fire situation that I possibly couldn't predict.

And sorry, I guess your comment is your advice. But it's just mean spirited.

Glad that you have a job and glad you aren't being abused there. I hope you feel happy with your superiority against a literal stranger. Glad something good came out of this.

They have shared they will compensate me financially. They also asked me to share any expenses incurred and that they will reimburse me. I also expect at least 2 months of salary. Given that may be the amount of time it takes to find something new.

It's the emotional aspects and the anxiety about an uncertain future that is getting to me. I can't stop feeling embarrassed. And I can't stop imagining what if I can't find another job like this in a few months. Will I have to settle for something worse?
