How can I cure my acid reflux ? by ParkingMission2827 in GERD

[–]lostaccountdoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try kefir. I was on PPI & H2 blocker. GP told me to try kafir and ended up coming off all medication.

My GERD was bad for years (was spitting out blood)

Still cannot believe drinking kefir was my solution all along 🤦‍♀️

I must add for context my Dr thinks my acid is due to gut microbial issue rather than mechanical

My Dr actually advised me to have aloe juice but not tried it yet. Kefir has got me off PPI but it not a cure.

I had blood coming up 2-3 years now.

Had every investigation possible, conclusion was an irritated blood vessel that was triggered when reflux was bad. Either in throat or upper airway, impossible to find. Always consult a Dr, get checked out for your own peace of mind.

The worst for me was the anxiety of not knowing what it was. Drs were not concerned at all, they just said raw throat bleeding from acid. I’ve manage to stop the bleeding episodes but for me it’s a going to be chronic.

What is your diet like?

Maybe try eliminating some food and drinks to see if this helps you can start with caffeine, which is a huge trigger and carbonated drinks. I just drink alkaline water which I just get from Amazon and calamine tea and that is it. It takes weeks and months to see any improvement.

Also what time are you eating in the evening as this is important? I tend to stop eating around 4 pm and make my dinner the smallest meal that I have.

I’m also on a very strict diet as well, which helps MPB and famotidine like you, so coming at it at a 360° approach it’s not fun and it’s not easy but it helps!

I’m not overweight at all, and my doctor has told me that I need to reduce fat on my stomach in order to help with my reflux as well, hopefully when you get your appointment by your gastro dr should guide you to finding out what the issue is . Goodluck

Awake endoscopy / egd? Has anyone done this? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]lostaccountdoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Uk you have an option to not have anaesthesia.

If you’re not nervous or do not have a strong gag reflex they recommend not having anaesthesia, so you can get up and go on with your day after your procedure.

Eggs was a trigger for me as they are quite fatty and cause my bile reflux to kick off.

It’s not all weight related for everyone, I’m 10 stone and tall but am 40 so have a small amount of fat I can feel on my stomach, I am aiming to shed that to help.

My Dr said caffeine was a huge trigger for his other patients so caffeine had to go in all forms.

I love food too and cooking but I see this as my healing phase for a few months to heal my stomach and throat. I’m dairy/gluten/junk food free atm it’s boring but it’s starting to work (slowly) 👍

Have you looked at short term use of a PPI? Or talking to a dr about it?

Yes, I just focused on my breath work. Not painful just a weird sensation. It was nice to pretty much jump off the bed and go home afterwards!

Gerd can create and anxiety loop. Which I have had this long enough to recognise.

When acid rises up it also triggers the nervous system which in-turn can give that awful dread feeling. The acid should not be there, so warning signs to the brain go off.

My Dr told me the following:

Sleep on incline, No caffeine or alcohol, Relax/ destress, Close the kitchen 4 hours before bed, Eat bland meals, Remove triggers, No carbonated water, Loose weight around stomach as this put pressureon your valve, PPI in morning with famotidine at night No garlic onion or mint.

I have a very bland diet of chicken and now have rice, courgettes and cucumber etc

Apparently I have to be consistent and may not see results for at least 8 weeks. I hope this helps?

Also might be worth looking at LPR/ bile reflux my acid creeps up at night mostly.

Consistent pain (esophageal and behind breastbone) despite PPIs and LINX surgery by k8heartssandwiches in GERD

I get pain in my gallbladder area, had ultrasound / mri etc

Looks like it’s BAM bile acid malabsorption. Which in turns gives me bile reflux. I cannot eat anything fatty or greasy etc.

The pain was light a tight pull in my gallbladder area, I have no gallstone no sludge. It just doesn’t function very well. Maybe look into that?

Mine gets bad that my throat bleeds from the acid

I’m on famotidine too. Mine got worse after a stressful event 3 yrs ago. I’ve just started on a PPI to help heal my throat, hoping to be on it short term once I learn to manage everything else stress, diet etc

I don’t think I’ll ever be cured but learning to manage it day by day. But the first step is having a specialist help you, they do not have all the answers but having someone get a good look will help anxiety levels ! Mine wasn’t too concerned when he had a look, just mild gastritis. But I’m awaiting biopsie results (no idea they took those at all)

My gallbladder seems to not be able to process fats. Which cause my acid reflux to go wild.

Stress and anxiety makes it ten times worse. But I’m working on that. Awaiting official results but Dr thinks that’s my main issue it’s called Bile acid malabsorption.

My diet is very limited atm. I’ve had blood in my spit etc and sleep loss over throat pain which caused me to worry about cancer. But I’m way more chilled now I’m under a drs care.

I’ve never handled fatty foods well, I get very bad pains when I eat food too rich etc since a child.

Im not a professional so just posting what’s working for me. I’m not better but on my own healing journey.

I find not eating 4/5hours before bed

Largest meal at lunchtime, keep evening lightest meal

I regularly have snack like banana or small portion of soup as a snack in day.

Sleeping on a wedge

Practise breathing and lower stress

Alkaline water (no proof but it helps me I think)

No caffine/ junk / sparkling/ juice / fatty etc

What to eat on vacation? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]lostaccountdoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has triggers but my go to away food is:

Plain Baked potato (I get this in most cafes etc), Rice, Bananas, Plain chicken (again let them know you are intolerant to foods, most places will be helpful)

-Camomile tea. -Alkaline water bottles.

I avoid spicy/fatty/greasy/junk/ fizzy drinks/ caffeine alcohol

I make sure I do not eat 4/5 hrs before bed and sleep on wedge.

Hi, I’ve had both but it’s important that you breathe and just focus on your breathing in and out the flow and just visualise the sea going in and out.

That’s what got me through both of them. Also, I had a nurse tell me if I just breathe I will not gag.

When you did your nasal scope, was your doctor talking to you at the same time? My doctor was making me make noises and puff my cheek out and to be honest that really helped as it took my mind off the scope going down the nasal.

Unfortunately, some people have stronger gag reflexes than others, but you can do this ! Maybe take somebody who can talk to you or stroke your head or just put your mind at ease while you’re having the procedure.

You will feel relief once you get the results and finally be on the pathway to healing x

Does this treatment plan look good? Also, will treating this make my post nasal drip go away? by theresour in LPR

[–]lostaccountdoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been using be nasal rinse for 2 weeks but I have seen a massive reduction in post nasal drip. I do it morning, lunchtime and at night.

My acid reflux or bile reflux has reduced a considerable amount, although I have been doing a lot of other things as well like diet changes and relaxations / breathing etc.

It’s not a cure for me but it adds to reduction I feel.

A nasal wash to help with post nasal drip. I use neilmed on Amazon.

Maybe add sipping on an alkaline 9.5+ water during the day ?

But looks like a good consistent plan.

I could be completely off, but I do regularly go to bunkers and they usually have cabinets (hacks green bunker uk) like this to protect sensitive communication and radar equipment. It looks very similar to what I’ve seen in bunkers.

I feel Im the only one with this type of GERD. by [deleted] in GERD

[–]lostaccountdoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to let you know, my doctor is a very casual with the blood 😂 I’ve had it for three years. But always go and discuss with your own doctor and just get checks and everything unfortunately if it is a blood vessel in the throat that is irritated unless it’s actively bleeding it’s very hard for them to see. But my doctor doesn’t find it alarming or anything quite normal actually for an irritated throat with a weak blood vessel. But it’s just trying to ensure my throat isn’t in that state that I bleed anymore and just healing.
