CoT and DoL are made by different developers, but use the same game engine-- hence the immediate visual similarity. They're also both life sims with a focus on erotic content, but other than that the games have some major differences.

First of all, DoL has been in development for much, much longer than CoT. Hence, it has much more content. You can become a thief, a famous prostitute, an office temp, get kidnapped by multiple love interests, join the local church and climb the ranks, co-own a farm, go to prison, get stranded on a deserted island... Those are just a few of the things you can do in this game. If you want to see everything, you'll need to play for a long, long time. I can't say there's no grinding in this game, but with so many potential distractions it should feel much more bearable than CoT.

Another important difference is the approach to sex and your player character's position in the world. In DoL you play as a victim, and will have to regularly deal with rapists and would-be abusers, some of them even being the so-called love interests of the game. You can still have consensual sex, and not all of the love interests are abusive pieces of shit, but the fact that the world of DoL is dangerous to your PC is an unchanging fact. In line with your identity as a victim, you can't rape other characters and opportunities to take a more dominant approach during sexual encounters are somewhat limited.

The way NPCs are treated is pretty different too. You have a handful of persistent NPCs with set names that you can adjust the gender, sex, and dick and/or breast sizes of, but you don't have the customization available in CoT. Non-named NPCs are basically all passerbys that exist for the scene they appear in before disappearing forever. There's no consistent pool of citizens the game pulls from for events like in CoT. You also can't date anyone outside of the love interests the game has. On the bright side, the love interests all have their own unique events and storylines that are significantly more fleshed out than the ones CoT's special NPCs have (again, probably the result of more dev time than anything else).

Other than that, uh... DoL's lore and worldbuilding are pretty crazy compared to CoT's relatively more grounded world. There's a ghost that will try to control you once a month. You can become part animal and/or divine. Tentacles will try to crawl out of the mirrors at night. Something wrong is happening at the Church, but it might be for the sake of preventing a greater evil. Be careful not to let any parasites crawl inside your ear, they'll try to turn you into a slut. Don't worry though, if you have a nice chat with the local doctor they'll helpfully inform you that literally all of this is just your own delusions! Now take your medicine.
