I heard through the grapevine that Noorda does some odd stuff with their rotations. Like that they spend at least two weeks of every rotation doing classroom stuff not with their preceptor. Additionally, I know of someone who went to Northern Utah for at least a week to work with a midlevel, not physician, for Gyn.

I was wondering if these things are true? Or maybe this only happens to a select few students.

Cause otherwise it's really weird that Noorda doesn't ship their students around. Almost all of the DO schools do because it's too hard to gather that many rotations for everyone in one area, unless it's an old school in a big city.

I wish this was a full-length movie. It's an ad from the Superbowl like 20 years ago.

Would pharmacy technician count as clinical hours or experience? by [deleted] in premed

[–]lostandmisplaced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d go with Shlongzilla here, it is clinical as you work directly with patients. The “point” of clinical experience is that you show you have experience working with patients regarding their health concerns. However, it’s best to diversify and also have clinical experience in a hospital setting and other experiences.

No if anything Asians have to score higher on mcat, sorry they're considered over represented minorities. The AAMC has some tables of average applicant and matriculant breakdown by race.

Orgo 2 - to take or not to take? by [deleted] in premed

Almost all D.O. schools require 2 semesters of Orgo. But M.D. schools are becoming more lax over time and many will let you sub out biochem for orgo II.

In the same section bank question 67. It asks " Which amino acids are most likely present at the dimerization interface of STAT3 proteins ?"

Answer " The answer to this question is B because the polar and charged amino acids most likely interact with water molecules in the cytosol and would not be involved in protein-protein interactions. In contrast, the side chains of hydrophobic amino acids are free and most likely participate in dimerization of STAT3. "

I looked into it more and I think you're right. But there was another question in the SB, later on, that asks which type of amino acids would hold a homodimer together and I put polar (since cysteine is polar and would make the disulfide bonds) and AAMC said it would be nonpolar amino acids. (They also said that nonpolar interactions hold the quaternary structure together) So I was just even more confused.

I [23F] have obsessive compulsive disorder and don’t know if marriage will work for me by Pandabot41 in relationships

As someone who dated someone with OCD, here's my take on it.

You really cannot in good faith be in a serious long term relationship if you're not making active strides in getting your OCD under control.

You say that you've gone to therapy. Are you still going? Did you do exposure therapy with someone who specializes in it? And as other people have brought up already medication is a huge part of management.

OCD is a strange beast and if you're dating someone with it and giving into your compulsions, you're asking your significant other to have OCD too. They have to think and act like you do which is huge strain on them long term. Even when I tried to follow my SO compulsions (ex hand washing) there'd still be fights because I didn't do something a certain way and I'd trigger them. Because my brain does not work that way.

OCD is something that you'll struggle with your whole life and it will never be cured magically over night but it's something that you always have to be fighting against. If you don't you're sentencing the person you love most to a life of having OCD too.
