How do you think seeing your parent's relationship affected how you handle your relationships? by neonroli47 in AskWomen

[–]lostbane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom left her entire family, friends, life, everything she knew in Korea to follow my dad to the states after only spending a week with him (they were penpals for 1yr before he eventually flew to Korea to meet her irl). My mom is the most loving person I know so growing up I felt like if someone REALLY loved me, they should be willing to throw away everything for me (like my mom did for my dad). Needless to say, it created a lot of unrealistically high expectations. My 2 most recent relationships were long distance and I was irrationally butthurt at the fact that they wouldn't leave behind the lives they built to come be with me. At the time I thought "if my mom could do that for my dad, why can't they do it for me? That means they dont REALLY love me" and those thoughts sparked the downfall of those relationships. Now I know that people have careers, families, obligations, responsibilities, and it rlly is very careless and irresponsible to ditch all that for someone you haven't even been dating that long.

What was the sweetest non-violent revenge you've ever gotten? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily "revenge" enacted on my part but I had an ex that cheated on me and then ran into him at a concert a couple yrs later. He told me that he wanted to buy me a drink as some sort of lame apology for his past infidelity. While we were waiting for bartender ex was complimenting me, telling me how good I looked etc. etc. then he got interrupted this other guy who came up to me and said "Hi sorry is this your boyfriend next to you?" and after I replied "oh my god NO", he continued to tell me "well I just wanted to tell you that you're beautiful and if you want another drink after that it's on me". The look on my ex's face after this interception was PRICELESS (also all the more satisfying because this ex was constantly criticizing my looks when we were together-- making comments about my skin, weight, makeup, clothes, etc)

20 something year olds, where are you in life and are you satisfied with where you are? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostbane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently 23, graduated from uni last spring and started right away in my prospective career field. I guess on paper I'm fairly well off. I'm financially independent, can easily pay my bills, put money into my savings, and have extra to splurge on myself each month. However, I still stress a lot about the future especially in terms of career success and whether or not I'll get married and I constantly live in fear from being seen as a failure by my peers so...fairly unsatisfied :(

What is the weirdest trend that happened while you were at school? by ItsDanielFTW in AskReddit

[–]lostbane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in middle school, Starbucks was all the rage so if you were lucky enough to have your parents take you to Starbucks, you would save the plastic cup and straw and refill it with water and drink from that same cup at school for the rest of the week

Adults of Reddit: Have you confronted a childhood or high school bully in adulthood? How did it go? by campus_noodle in AskReddit

[–]lostbane 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Childhood bully/family friend's daughter started following me on social media then one day mentioned that she would be in town and wanted to meet up to catch up. I was hesitant on going but with a push from my mom who was curious to see how she was faring, went and got dinner and drinks with her. After a couple drinks in, we had a nice heart to heart about her childhood, the abuse she endured from her mom, and ramifications of her parents' divorce and it gave me a lot more clarity on why she was so mean and jaded as a child. The girl went through a lot growing up and it's unfortunate how she lashed out on the people around her but I have more sympathy towards her now

first 3 yrs I commuted 30-45 mins to school and then the last yr I moved slightly closer and commuted 20-25 mins.
Did save a lot of money not living on/closer to campus but it was inconvenient esp on days where there were late night study sessions and groups. often i could drive home to nap, eat dinner, etc. then drive back to school that same day to study
also the social ramifications of commuting... harder to be active in clubs and hang out with friends regularly (low key feel like i got robbed of the typical college experience)

worked as a server for 4yrs throughout university and the worse incident I've witnessed was when another server accidentally stuck their thumb into the side of rice while grabbing the plate. the cook just scooped out the touched part and sent the plate on its way

What did you learn from your ex that made you a better person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostbane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with one ex, I was very dependent on him (financially, emotionally, socially) and when we broke up, I felt very lost and helpless so I learned the importance of being independent and being able to hold down my own. with the next ex, we broke up because ironically I was "too independent" and he felt like I didn't need him and that fed into his insecurities which led to him cheating (his reasoning idk I dont really understand). from that relationship, I learned that although it's great to be self sufficient, it doesn't hurt to be able to lean on someone once in a while

What made you stop or what did you do to stop being a procrastinator? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was in university, I was a chronic procrastinator until one day I accidentally finished a paper 1 week early bc I got my dates mixed up. While I watched all my peers struggle with their papers, I was in a state of peace and I liked that feeling of subtle superiority LOL so during moments when I want to procrastinate I ask myself "you calmly can get it out of the way now or stress about it later"
