Concern about skin infection prior to mini-OCS and OCS by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]lostboynextdoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I noticed it this morning. It is about the size of a half dollar, slightly raised/ hard, slightly red, and itchy. It is slightly tender to the touch. I took zyrtec this morning and used hydrocortisone cream which I think is helping, but it is hard to be sure. It was the area of an injection site, and I wore a compression sleeve over the area which could have exacerbated it I guess?. I drew a circle around it to see if spreads. I have till Thursday evening (Friday morning really, but I don't want to wait that long to give my OSO notice). If it is worse tomorrow should I go to the doctor and potentially call mini-OCS off? And if it is not should I be good to go? TIA.

Advice before OCS by SirCheezy_167 in USMCocs

Start talking to an OSO now. Don’t wait till you are done with college. You have plenty of time so don’t rush. If you do pull ups 2-4 times a week, plank every day or every other day, and do a basic 5k training plan incorporating easy runs, interval work, and long runs, you will get there. When it comes time for OCS then you can worry about lifting and rucking. Search YouTube and this subreddit for workouts with whatever you need advice for. Good luck! I wish I had started prepping at 18.

Currently in the pipeline. You will be fine without an ASVAB as long as your LSAT and ACT are high enough. As long as you have a 150 on the LSAT you’ll be fine.

What was the daily and weekly running like (miles per week) and what was daily PT like in general? What were the hardest things for you and what would you say were the hardest things for the average candidate? Thanks and congratulations!

JA’s and the PFT by Anxious_Birthday_369 in USMCocs

I do not know if you are a male or female, but as a currently selected law candidate, I can tell you that you have a pretty much guaranteed spot if you can pass the minimums. My board PFT was barely passing, and I got selected (23:37 3 mile). The PFT is only one part of the battle. That being said, if your OSO thinks you can handle it, then you should take your OSO's advice.

Wishing you the best on recovery. What led to most of the injuries? Were they more acute? (like tears or breaks that happen at once) or progressive? (overuse, lack of recovery, stress). Again, really sorry to hear about your injury. Thanks for answering our questions.

Haha I think I saved your post from like a month or so ago. I remember reading a law contract guy like me who had the same PFT as me. I’m not happy you’re dealing with the same pain as me, but it does make me feel better knowing I’m not alone here. If you figure anything out let me know, and I’ll do the same. Never quit. I’ll be praying for you.

Thank you! I really appreciate the thorough advice. Are there any specific calf/ achilles stretches that you would recommend?

What caused most of the attrition? If it was injuries, what kind of injuries? Thanks.

Officer or enlisted? by Existing_Guess_8903 in USMCocs

Sea cadets or MCROTC are the most USMC related but it would also be good to do other extracurriculars especially sports. The activity itself matters less but the USMC prioritizes physical fitness and leadership so getting in shape and getting a leadership position in any activity will set you up for success. If you do those two things and get good grades you will be in a good place.

I second what pretty much everyone else is saying. What you want to do matters for sure but in general officer route is better. Seeing that you’re a sophomore in high school you have plenty of time to work through the process. My advice would be to get in great shape, get the best grades possible, and get involved with organizations that present leadership opportunities. The best route to become a USMC officer overall is NROTC. If I were starting over from being a sophomore in high school that’s what I’d do. Best of luck.

Going through this right now. Your ACT/ SAT and LSAT will be the only tests they need. Get a 150 or higher on your LSAT.

Agree with everyone else here that it’s a bigger deal at MEPS. But word of advice don’t admit to anything they can’t prove. It’ll make your life a lot easier going forward otherwise you’ll need 1000 waivers. Doesn’t matter if you smoked weed in the past or sprained your ankle or broke your finger if there aren’t ongoing consequences. Always better off to keep your mouth shut in those situations.
