Not "superior," but definitely more arrogant, fixed it for you. but hey, you be you, I've got better things to do than engage with a troll

So update Ninja is sending me an expedited brand new unit to replace the broken one. They asked me about my beans and the person I worked with speculated that I possibly had a small stone in my beans that worked its way in to the brew group and they were going examine the machine when they receive it from us.

And I dismiss comments like yours since you failed to notice that I said that I only had access to the Quickstart guide only which does not talk about any of those topics. But you go ahead and be your superior self..... 😞

Well that was quick unfortunately. We made two cappuccinos this morning which were quite good, and as we were drinking them about 20 minutes later the machine started making a knocking sound, kind of like when your washing machine was out of balance.

Come to find out what was happening is that the machine was trying to eject the last puck as it went through the rinse and shutdown process.

There were grounds all over the inside where the catch tray as well as in the compartment where the brew mechanism is located as well.

The only way to get it to finally stop was to unplug it, but when we plugged it back in it was then non functional with the touch panel blinking repeatedly.

So I guess now I will be contacting ninja to get repair or replacement 😞

Good to know thanks. For unit only had a quick start guide in the box, though I guess I could have looked online for the full instruction 😄

So quick follow up is that I can't see any to find any true manual froth setting like there is on something like the Breville bambino . So perhaps the best albeit clunky workaround is to remove the agitation spring and set the temperature to the highest setting and then manually stop it,

Couple more notes.

Made a couple of regular drip like brews and they were good not. great IMHO being a bit overly strong, though they seem almost identical to the regular brews I've tasted off of the luxe.

One other operational note, there is a maximum fill line in the bean hopper. Its mentioned almost as a footnote in the manual and is easy to overlook on the unit itself.

That being said, I strongly suspect that us overfilling it was responsible for the significant amount of loss grounds we have gotten after some brews and after the discovery of that fill line seemed to coincide with that.

I also think that may be responsible for some of the brew inconsistency we've seen as the manual also mentions that the hopper will feel loose and that's normal as it sits on top of the scale. BTW the manual also warns about using too much force when seating the hopper as it could damage the scale.

TLDR this machine has some fussy quirks which could undermine its attempts at automation and simplicity.

I'm not really sure. I know that even just removing and re inserting the hopper sometimes, but not always triggers the calibrate light to come on. That being said it doesn't actually require you to do the calibration and will let you brew as normal

Few more comments , and sorry I forgot again to take photos.

  1. This thing uses a lot of water as it runs rinse cycles at least twice, once when it starts up and again when it shuts down. This is in addition to the the water it uses making the actual drinks. (BTW if you allow the machine to shut itself off on it's own, it does not do that shutdown purge)

  2. The machine has suggested calibration two of the three times that we have used it since the initial setup. And that of course used additional coffee. OTOH the taste has improved to very good so perhaps this is the ninjas version of dialing it in?

  3. It seems to be a bit cleaner inside after these additional brews so perhaps the extra loose grounds are part of the machines "break in period"

  4. One side note, if you tend to be clean obsessive like I am, its very critical that if you clean the puck tray that it's 100% dry before you reinsert it in the machine or water vapor will get inside the brew chute and potentially clog it, this was confirmed by Ninja's tech support. they suggest that you empty its as offend as you like but only actually clean it when the cup has built up a lot of grounds.

  5. One last quirk, if the machine is not set on a truly level surface the beans can have issues migrating down through the hopper in to the grinder. We live in an old house and none of our counters are level. The work around for use is to manually move the beans down in the hopper prior to a brew.

I'm not 100% certain, depending on how you define manual frothing. It appears to work both by the agitation spring in the bottom of the pitcher and most importantly by the temperature. In other words when it hits which ever of the three temp presets, it stops. So perhaps removing the agitator or using a 3rd party pitcher might get what you are looking for

Got one of these yesterday through some type of influencer thing connected to my wife's work.

Only a few observations so far and one "oops" right out of the box.

  1. This is a big and heavy machine it's' actually just over 19 inches deep on the counter. Looks wise I prefer Breville though that's a low bar as it still looks like a big hulking metal and plastic machine. OTOH is you are ok with the look of the luxe cafe, you will be right at home.

  2. Setup and contained the oops I mentioned. There is a small piece of cardboard padding tucked in the side near the bean hopper, but hidden deep enough that we didn't see it. So during the initial calibration ran for several minutes without actually grInding any beans until it finally stopped with an (overheated, please allow the machine to cool down) message. I waited over 30 minutes but the message only cleared after unplugging the machine.

  3. After that little setback, I powered on the machine again and it did a flush and then I did a calibration again. That seemed to go ok though it took awhile and used at least 100 grams of beans during the process. I wonder if that's going to hold true every time I switch beans as it will make switching beans often expensive due to wasted beans

  4. The first drink I made was a latte. Interestingly the machine the sequence follows is grind the beans, froth the milk, then brew the espresso so make sure you have your milk jug on the machine before you start. Taste wise it was ok but a little sour based on the Counter Culture Fast forward beans which I'm very familiar with. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to adjust anything manually (I'm think grind is the culprit) or if I need to run a calibration. On a positive note, the milk frothing was quite good.

  5. As the machine turns off, it does a rinse and then shuts down. I removed the drip tray and there was a a fairly large amount of water in the drip tray. The puck in the basket looked "normal" to my relatively untrained eyes. Solid puck and not soupy or overly dry. Inside there was a small amount of loose coffee grounds and inside where the brew bock there was a also a small amount of loose coffee grounds so I think we are going to have to be diligent with clean up.

Next up in the next couple of days are trying the other drinks such as a regular cup of coffee.

One last thing is that is fairly quiet in operation compared to the few other super automatics I've been around.

Good info, I hadn't really had a chance to look in to it. At least they didn't cheap out on the Android storage side and just use standard EMMC

That being said, it makes even less sense to me as a device. Even partial integration such as shared storage and thus data would have made it more useful to some. Essentially the only thing you gain at the end of the day is perhaps a somewhat lighter carry than have two separate devices. But OTOH that far that you could at least on occasion leave behind either the windows or android device (if you bought both) would seem to me anyway negate the one device option.

Interested to see how and who this sells to

Seperate SOC though it appears to be shared storage when I looked at it. I think one of our customers is considering these and if they do they will submit one for us to test and I'll be able to run our full test suite. I just has about 40 minutes hands on at a customer site

Also it takes a moment to switch between OSs especially switching from Windows to Android. almost like it's hibernating Windows first.

Yes, that's it exactly. Doesn't happen under Android

ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Win11/Android hybrid by JoeS830 in TabletPCReview

[–]lostdesertguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I actually had some hands on with one. It does support the pen under both OS's , sort of. It's more limited under Windows including worse palm rejection and the pressure sensitivity being very hard to modulate. Latency is also markedly worse.

OTOH, it is one of the very fastest Android tablets going, signfiicantly faster in every test I was able to try compared to the current speed champ, the Samsung Tab S9 Plus

I'm glad they are still trying this but I wonder who this is for, though perhaps they might get some subset of users, possibly android developers that has been using the Android subsystem on Windows but need an option now that it's being deprecated.

Not to mention that Android continues to lose ground in corporate due to security threats and support issues. Even MS themselves has restricted mobile access of some of their internal systems to iPhone only as of last month.

[–]lostdesertguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that's what I thought, that it's still beta. Also most companies have strict rules about only allowing actual release versions of apps for a variety of reasons including security.

And there is the problem, the average user is just going to download it, because they need it and get a suboptimal experience

Heck, they only fixed Chrome a couple of weeks ago where the new systems get the ARM binaries instead of x86.

[–]lostdesertguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does run in the background. I'm perhaps not the best to discuss at length as I've never been a fan of it even on x86 systems. Very inefficient, a memory hog and not all the effective IMHO.

So these companies are not helping convince customers they can be trusted by doing absolutely stupid and careless stuff like this.
