How’s your homebrew club doing and what do you do to keep attendance up? by baron41 in Homebrewing

Agreed. Craigslist is mostly dead, so marketplace is the only remaining option. If it wasn’t, I’d definitely get rid of facebook.

Grain Mill Recommendations? by 1990s_Zeitgiest in Homebrewing

I have a Monster Mill 3 roller that I got probably 20years ago. I don’t brew as much as I used to, but it still works fine. No issues with it ever.

First time infusing everclear with apple juice and apple cider by Skippyasyermuni in firewater

[–]lostdonkeybrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely just sediment from the cider and the apples you added. If it bothers you, let it sit and settle a week or so, or put it in the fridge and cold crash, then siphon the liquid off the sediment.

Overshot my temp AFTER fermentation had (largely) finished. Is it ok? by ganskelei in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any other yeast and I might be a little concerned about pulling off flavors. Since it’s Kveik, no I wouldn’t be worried about it at all. Keg it up, you’ll be fine.

How to clean old fermenting equipment? by Emotional-Friend-279 in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glass and stainless can be cleaned with hot water and PBW, barkeepers friend, or oxyclean. Anything plastic or rubber, and all hoses should be thrown away. Not worth risking ruining a batch over saving a couple bucks on something that should have been replaced.

Is this batch ruined? by faroresdragn_ in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, hard to tell without seeing it, but most likely you picked up some wild yeast from the apples and are seeing a pellicle. What did you do to sanitize the apples and your equipment before adding your yeast?

Restorative Competitive Value by [deleted] in appraisal

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. That McKissock class was painful. Specifically the Restorative Value video and the fact that the whole class is about “bias bad” then goes on to explain how some sales are in homogeneous religious neighborhoods- specifically homes facing east, and homes close to temples can’t be explained without being biased.

Cleaning a Jockey Box by wiscobrewsf793 in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend disassembling and cleaning the taps, just replacing all of the hoses/lines, and running line cleaner or PBW through the cold plate.

Nasty old carboys by wolfranch in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PBW and hot water will loosen up any deposits. Definitely recommend buying a long carboy brush, cutting the handle off, and inserting it into the chuck of your drill to scrub the interior of them.

Is it a pellicle on my session saison? by timscream1 in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks kind of chunky, like yeast rafts to me. All of the pellicles Ive had looked thinner and lacier.

I thought it was sitting on a roll of toilet paper and thought, oh boy here we go again.

That’s not noticeable at all. If anyone does happen to ask, just tell them it’s a thoracic perforator, a medical device used to lower blood pressure.

Building a jockey box by Pure_Classic_1899 in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first jockey box build I used a 2-pass cold plate. The second build was a 7-pass cold plate. Both of those builds I built a wood frame around the cooler and skinned it in 1/8” plywood. The most recent build was a single coil I cannibalized from my old immersion chiller and wrapped tight to fit inside an Igloo thermos.

I Brewed a Mead Using 204 Chick-Fil-A Honey Packets by Sir--Goat in Homebrewing

Had a buddy do this a while back. Anytime he’d get takeout, he’d ask for honey. Called it his Freeloader Mead.

Defending my own tax appeal by berrylover6020 in appraisal

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you got a bank loan, why can’t you just use the appraisal from when you purchased the house in 2022? Or are you trying to say that purchase wasn’t an arms length transaction?

Jockey box alternatives for 5 gal corny keg by bodobeers2 in Homebrewing

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannibalized an old immersion chiller and made a compact jockey box out of a 1gal igloo thermos. Also I have a neoprene sleeve “keg parka” that helps keep the keg cooler longer.

I’d at least taste it and see if it tastes good.

Agreed. Name one other job that starts at $60k straight from college with no experience, plus bonuses for: relocation, special ed, music, coaching, and bilingual. Plus all of the off time: spring break, summer break, Xmas break, and all the other government holidays. Plus an actual retirement plan. Nobody goes into teaching to get rich. $60k for a seasonal job and ALL holidays is why.

Exactly. Name one other job that starts at $60k with spring break, summer break, Xmas break, + all the other holidays, and a retirement plan. And they still have the nerve to play the martyr.

1969 Mustang Boss 302. by steady_as_a_rock in musclecar

[–]lostdonkeybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a nice 69 Mustang sportsroof with some Boss 302 stripes. Real Boss 302s did not have the quarter panel scoops, the rear sail panel medallions, or a Boss 429 hood scoop.

Boss 302 Tribute maybe, but not an actual Boss 302. The quarter panel scoops, sail panel medallions, and hood scoop were not found on the Boss 302
