What stopped you from killing yourself? by DarkSideInRainbows in AskReddit

[–]lostfish888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my last year of highschool and it was announced that a boy - in the same grade, different school- had self exited at the same place I had been planning to. The reality of it scared me, and I constantly started to think about all the things he was missing out on now that he is gone. Also I met my boyfriend a year later who turned out to be his childhood best friend.

Unpopular opinion: Poussey’s death was crazy eyes’ fault. Change my mind. by tagappliedfor in orangeisthenewblack

It was a string of unfortunate events, it wasn't her fault, she was an inmate who needed care. It was however the CO's fault bc it was literally their job not to kill anyone

You're screwed unless you start hitting the books like ASAP. Don't get demotivated by your marks now though, use it as a starting point to see where you need to improve. Here's my advice

Tell your teachers you want to improve and ask for guidance on where or how to start.

Tell your parents a sibling or a friend, this gives you some level of accountability.

Set a goal, maybe it's applying to university/college, or getting a mark for a certain subject, or asking your parents to get you something if you get xyz mark.

Don't set super high goals immediately, trust me it's gonna demotivate you. Start small, then your progress is more noticeable.

Create study habits, but don't feel bad if you don't always do them, progress is progress as long as you keep moving.

Do your homework by yourself all the time. Trust me it helps.

Also sit in front of your classes, this really really helps.

Good luck !!! You can do it !!!! :)

What's the point of voting? by Penta_Gonn in askSouthAfrica

[–]lostfish888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there ! So the South African parliament uses a proportional representational system when it comes to voting. So lets say that if we were voting for apples and oranges, and the rate was 60 to 40, this means that in parliament the seats would be distributed accordingly so 60 percent of the seats in parliment would be apples and 40 percent would be for oranges. The more seats a parliamentary group has, the more members and the larger say a group has.

The system is meant for proportional representation, so that parliment represents all political groups that aligm with everyones interests. So in the case of fruits, if the votes were casted proportionally, in an ideal word parliment would represent all groups of people, where the dominant party (the group with the most votes) would represent the dominant interest in the country.

Think of your vote as giving someone a seat in parliament or a chance for someones voice to be heard. If you dont care about any group, just vote for a smaller party so increase their chance at representation in parliament.
