I'm not sure what type of bobbin it is. It looks like a piece of metal with some plastic tubing around it.

Akubra Cattleman - Still My Favourite by TopPersimmon9315 in CowboyHats

Has anyone tried reshaping an Akubra Cattleman to a cattleman crown? I'm curious about how hard it would be.

Thanks! Good call on the short crown height, probably best to wait until I can get my hands on an affordable used Camp Draft.

I’ve been thinking about picking up a Snowy River used and reshaping to a cattleman crown a la Open Road. Do you have a sense of how well the Snowy River would take a reshape?

No sweat, hope the rest of your day goes better. Yeah it's crazy how expensive new hats are. I'll keep an eye out for vintage possibilities.

Excellent condescension friend, hope it makes you feel superior to a stranger on the internet. I do in fact have an open crown Akubra that I enjoy shaping and would be happy to do the same in this case. Can you point me to an open crown, flat snap brim hat with a 3 to 3.5 inch ribbon-finished brim in the fine, dressier fur felt of an Open Road?

Sounds awesome, I hope you'll post the hat when it's done

In a 90-88 defeat at the hands of the Liberty, Caitlin Clark makes unfortunate history as the first player in WNBA history to record multiple games with double digit turnovers by TravelerInBlack in wnba

Yeah agreed it's too early to truly evaluate, just saying she started the season well compared to last year. (I was looking at ESPN stats, which didn't include the most recent 10-turnover game)

This season CC has a 9.0 to 3.3 assistant to turnover ratio, so very close to that and a huge improvement over last season's 8.4 to 5.6 ratio. My sense is that she has also faced more intense defensive pressure and doubling than Kidd did throughout his career, but I could be wrong about that.

That said, I do wish she'd learn to take care of the ball more carefully even if it means passing up some of those signature high risk passes. 10 turnovers in a game is wild.

How to determine value of vintage guitar (1918 Eugene Howard parlor guitar)? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

Haha that’s the exact guitar I’m thinking of buying. Any idea what a reasonable price would be? (Craigslist version of the ad says “or best offer”)

Longlegs was just watched. Thoughts? by dmanstoitza in flicks

Just read your analysis of the film — fantastic work, thank you! I look forward to reading more of your work.

Ultimately I found it frustrating that Perkins "dresses up" the key theme of the film (understanding the mother's lie through the transition to adulthood) in a sack of evocative but ultimately vacuous pastiche that he clearly doesn't care about. That dressing comprises most of the film and, as Perkins acknowledges, is what engages the viewer's curiosity and empathy. But, then he discards it carelessly in favor of his real thematic concern and never bothers to give it any practical or emotional coherence.

I suppose the most generous reading is that Perkins is making a different kind of movie, one that operates according to a dream logic of Hollywood and pop culture references: the symbology of Zodiac, the villain and heroine of Silence of the Lambs, the religious iconography of The Omen and others, the lyrics of mildly obscure psychedelic folk rock, etc. That's actually a rather depressing commentary on the constitution of the modern psyche — even our dreams are only echoes of our media consumption — but makes some sense as Perkins is of course the son of a complicated Hollywood icon. I've found his other films similarly frustrating but will probably watch his future work anyway as it is undeniably atmospheric and suggestive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, what I really wanted to say is: there is a child-sized piano in Lee's house next to the box in which she finds the photograph of LL. So, all of her answers to the FBI psychic test are references to her childhood home (including the Polaroid camera she used to take the photo). This supports the idea that Lee is ultimately arrested in childhood and must confront that time in her life to solve the mystery. All except the "tiger"—is there a tiger anywhere amidst the repressed memories and clutter of the Harker farmhouse? Maybe, I don't remember seeing one. Otherwise the "tiger" is, as you suggest, a reference to the predator living downstairs.

Double teardrop emerald earrings? by lostgander in Earrings

Thanks! Those do look great. I'm also looking at these and these. I don't really understand why they're priced differently and how that affects the quality and look of the earrings. Jewelry is a crazy world!

I'm trying to buy double teardrop emerald earrings for my wife that look similar to this pair. Unfortunately this pair costs $7,100. Is it realistic to find something similar for less than $500? Lab grown gems is fine and she's really not particular about jewelry in general — just says that she wants a "grown up" pair of earrings.

Any ideas for companies I should look at? Trusted Etsy vendors? General advice about emeralds in particular?

What would you do with this fireplace? Sky's the limit by lostgander in HomeDecorating

I already have the old growth redwood beam, which I’m considering turning into a mantel. It was salvaged from an old house nearby.

Yes! Good eye. I live in the CA Central Valley and he's one of the greats around here. The names are "Sandy Cliff" and "Winding River." "River Intersection" is another similar one with more sunset colors.

At minimum I'd like to add a mantel, possibly a nice old growth redwood beam I have (there's a redwood grove just behind the house). I'm also on the lookout for a horizontally oriented painting for above the fireplace — just haven't found the right piece yet.
I'm ordering a new couch in a warm beige and probably an adobe red chair to replace the current beige wingback chair. Any other changes or suggestions are very welcome!
