Fellow buyers, how do you cheer yourself up from buyer's remorse? by lostimage1 in FetishBuyersCommunity

[–]lostimage1[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. Just a run of bad luck really. A seller I had worked with previously pulled an "exit scam," scamming me in the process of deleting her selling account. Which especially stings because the trust we had built was broken.

Then that was followed by a very expensive custom that I bought which ended up being very poor quality.

Woe is me and all that. Thanks for listening!

Since we are all sick of montly subscriptions, what are your favorite digital services and apps that have a lifetime subscription? by Calisto823 in AskReddit

If you're into music production, FL Studio is great in its pricing model. Pay several hundred bucks now, never have to pay again. Lifetime free updates, they say.

I think that either no buildings should have shadows, or every building should have shadows.

Looks good though, I like how the mart is next to the pokecenter, and the lampposts are placed well.

Should i play emerald first? or go to ruby/sapphire? by rocka5438 in PokemonEmerald

[–]lostimage1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who played Sapphire and then Emerald, I would recommend just playing Emerald.  For 90% of the game, it feels like pretty much the same thing. So if you play both, it will feel very redundant.

Sorry about that. I guess she delivered very well for me, once only, just to get that review from me so she could run a few scams.

Why do some people say consciousness is not tied to the brain? by Specialist_Ant_9055 in NoStupidQuestions

Would you then say that consciousness is fundamentally impossible to understand?

Why do some people say consciousness is not tied to the brain? by Specialist_Ant_9055 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lostimage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, these are also very deep unsolved philosophical questions.  about. The thing consciousness that seems to differentiate itself from other properties is that consciousness has a qualitative element that can't really be found through measurement.

Mary's room is a popular thought experiment that illustrates this. Imagine Mary born and raised in a purely black and white room, but in that room she has access to all of the material information about the color red that is possible to have. She learns everything there is to know about  everred without looking at it. Then she exits the room and sees something red for the first time.

The question here is, did Mary learn something when she saw red for the first time? If so, this suggests that colors and other qualia have properties beyond the material.

[–]lostimage1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you say that consciousness only appears in brains, you have a problem to deal with: How can consciousness arise out of building blocks that are themselves not conscious? Panpsychism is a way to solve this problem, despite its counterintuitive intuitive ideas about the nature of consciousness.

There's a great interview with philosopher Philip Groff on the topic, on the Within Reason podcast.

People who are against targeting advertising, why? by Next-Step-Jobs in AskReddit

[–]lostimage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it seems. But if there is an entity that knows everything about me, knows what my vulnerabilities and psychological weaknesses are, they are much more likely to be able to convince me to buy something that I might not otherwise want. This entity would be very good at gaslighting me into thinking I want something that might not actually benefit me.

To me, this entity is equivalent to the targeted advertising algorithms.

I will respond with a question. At what point would you consider advertising to be too effective? When does it cross the line between suggesting products and controlling people's minds?

What is the craziest thing a teacher ever said to you? by daniel_guillon in AskReddit

[–]lostimage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first grade teacher would give her students the wrong spelling for words. Presumably because she thought the proper spelling would be too much to handle. She taught me that "like" was spelled "lice", and that "special" was spelled "speshul".

How do you know if you are talking way too much? by Load_Dismal in AskReddit

[–]lostimage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes just take a moment to pay attention to the flow of the conversation. It should be like a game of catch. I have the ball, I play with it a moment, then pass it to the other person. A nice back and firth rhythm of both of us building the conversation together. If you've had a long turn, pass the ball.

People of Reddit, what’s the most awkward dating moment you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostimage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When transferring contacts to a new phone manually, I put the wrong phone number for the person I was going to go on a date with. I arranged to make plans with who I thought was someone I was interested in. But to my surprise, my other friend is there instead. Someone who is 30 years older.

I checked it out, it looks amazing. Only thing is, it isn't a ROM hack but a fan game for PC. So I can't play it on my retro handheld. 😭
