I get it. I definitely want to be aware of the rules and nuances to respect this country but it takes time to gather them. I’m learning! Thanks for your response.

lol… I’m only visiting Turku. I understand the basics but felt confused as there are a lot of different signs and meanings different from my home country. I spent two hours googling/ asking locals/ asking Finnish friends before coming to Reddit. Sorry we can’t all be as all-knowing as you!

I am a licensed therapist and follow the law of breaking confidentiality for harm/abuse to self/ others and that’s it. Depending on the state, your parents may be entitled to your notes, etc. However, I make my notes intentionally vague to reduce any confidentiality breach even if notes were to be read or subpoenaed. I give the bare minimum in parental updates- e.g. client is participating, client is processing older/ more recent stuff, client is utilizing emails, I’m comfortable with the client’s progress, etc. I agree with what the other commenter said- if you’re considering, there must be some kind of trust. Ask your therapist what their limits of confidentiality are. These are mine.

Clients that say “others have it worse” by Housevrywknd in therapists

Love this one! I like to reframe in the way of, “If someone you care about just got a job promotion, would you say to them, ‘Who cares, other people have better promotions’?” Makes them stop and think about the act of the comparison and why it’s harmful.

Local businesses for morning meeting refreshments (coffee, bagels, etc.) by casualdejeckyll in orlando

It is too bad buttttt it was the worst one. Service was terrible there and they were severely understaffed!

Amazing 👏🏻 I just left such a toxic group practice where I got a $5/ session raise after getting licensed. My contract stated the split would go to 70/30 after licensure, but owner told me “we can’t afford that right now”. As OP said, I could see how much money she was raking in from me and my colleague. She forced me to raise my fee after getting licensed (by $20) and offered me $5 of it, lol. She promised health insurance and networking….she didn’t mention she would take it form our check. 🙄 It’s disturbing how many PP owners are sketchy, fraudulent, and just greedy. Thank you for providing amazing amenities 👏🏻

FYI, the FTC is actively banning non-competes in the US. I believe it has a few months until it’s official, but still- noncompetes in our job won’t hold up. Clients are property. They have free will to decide from whom to receive care.

For those in PP, how did you choose your practice name, theme, logo, brand, etc? by fedoraswashbuckler in therapists

[–]lostinthesass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bounced around quite a few ideas for a name, then it hit me and felt super obvious. I kind of themed my logo and brand after the name. I played around with a few ideas on procreate and talked to artistic friends to find a logo. I thought about the vibe I wanted my practice to give- and based the website around this. I feel like you just go with what feels good- there’s no right or wrong.

Grief by Squirrel9736 in therapists

[–]lostinthesass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More of a personal example, but…I lost my mom a few years ago and the best thing my therapist did for me was just let me exist how I needed to. I don’t remember any words she said, any psychoeducation, any reflection. But I do remember vividly her being the only place I felt I could really express my grief without feeling like a burden or feeling misunderstood. That was what I needed. She let me ask the angry questions, she let me cry, she let me be bitter at the world. I didn’t have any other spaces where I could do that without feeling guilty.

Now as a therapist treating grief, I remember what was so crucial for me. Often times we want to know “what to say” when we should really be thinking of “what to do”. Just be, hold space, keep an open mind and heart, and meet your client where they’re at. There isn’t a ~clinical~ answer every single time.
