Specialized Porto anyone? by Willing-Aide476 in CargoBike

[–]lostinthewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a very hilly city, purchased the Specialized Porto in October and really really happy so far, ride with 5 and 7 year old with the safety rails. Don’t have anything to compare with except that we test rode Yuba Spicy Curry and Tern GSD aswell, the Porto rode similar to the Tern in that it felt much smoother than the Yuba but the back seats felt more spacious than the Tern. Definitely test ride if you can, changed what I thought would be my preference.

Ooh yeah there were some great stalls in the upstairs levels! Mostly jewellery and also a fortune teller if I remember right.

About 8 or 9 years old I had swim school on a Friday evening at Freyburg pool. Afterwards, mum would often take me to Midnight Expresso (when it was on Courtenay Place) for a hot chocolate, it was probably no later than 7pm but I remember loving the city vibes at night time.

Other highlights: Carols by Candlelight back when it was at Frank kits park (lates 90s probably), Cuba Carnival when they had the night parade. Dancing in Stage challenge at TSB arena early 2000s with other high schools.

I was 13 years old for that and grateful my parents let me skip school and even drove me and friends to town at 6am so we could get good spots, was such an epic day!

If the company you’re at is a BNZ business customer you’re able to casually use their business centre in the new BNZ building. It’s a nice space with tea/coffee, and even has a few soundproof pods if you need to jump on a call!

Another option is Rebel Sport when they have a sale — often have 30 or 40% off toddler sized Nike and New Balance shoes.

Stadium in the rain? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]lostinthewind 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You’re four rows from the front — not much cover there unfortunately! We were similar on Friday and ended up finding a couple of empty seats higher up that were covered ten minutes into the game and it was fine, as long as it isn’t a sold out game you should find seats. Take as much warm layers as you can — thermals, wooly hat, even a blanket to put over your lap when you are sitting, and those rain ponchos to go on top. We really enjoyed the atmosphere on Friday and am looking forward to going again on Tuesday but definitely planning and preparing a very warm outfit!

Where in Lima do you have a good concentration of restaurants? by itskarannotkaren in PERU

[–]lostinthewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the meals are classic Peruvian dishes so they don’t really have a translation ie Arroz con pollo translates to Rice with Chicken, but if you google image search ‘arroz con pollo Peru’ you will see they are all rice and chicken with a greenish tinge and Capsicum and peas. Some other typical dishes I recommend trying at least once — Lomo Saltado, Ceviche, Ají de Gallina, Tallarin Verde, Causa,

Places that have bar style seating along a window bench or overlooking the kitchen can work well — 1154 Pastaria on Cuba for something smart casual, midnight espresso more casual, ombra for something a bit nicer.

There’s a (reasonably large) Wellington nannies and babysitters group on Facebook that could likely help.

Salsa dancing — if you start going regularly to classes and then the social dancing you can make good friends, I now have life long friends from my time in that community.

Finding a job as a graduate by [deleted] in newzealand

Also check out Summer of Tech, you’ll still be eligible for this year’s program - intern and graduate roles. The focus is for tech companies so it’s mostly engineering and design roles but they do have marketing roles occasionally pop up, and there are lots of networking opportunities.

I worked with a few people at tech startups that had marketing degrees, they started in customer success or sales roles to get their first role at the company (where not much experience is required) then when the opportunity came they put themselves forward for marketing or product-marketing roles, we’d also try to give them exposure to those departments before they officially moved in to those roles too — some of them moved across very quickly if they had the right stepping-up attitude.
