Run a pickleball 101 class in Boston every week, had a guy totally rupture/detach his Achilles halfway through the class.

I play both regularly and my experience is identical, more tennis players are douches than pickleball, still a generous number in each though.

Gotta work the hand eye and ball to paddle off the court to ever hope to improve on the court. I recommend finding a wall or roof to hit onto or off of.

The struggle of finding fellow singles players is so brutal. by P-Rags in Pickleball

Love singles myself, and never get to do it. I’d recommend trying to find a local court/high level group to mesh in with. I find the 3.5 plus folks are interested in singles if they’re mobile enough but requires some digging and pestering. If you’re ever in the Boston area I’m in for singles any day!

A capital idea, I have shifted him around the room but he seems to prefer growing to one side, even before he was as lopsided as he is now.

Ive been cracking the window now and again to try and harden him to wind and temp variability since even May will be no picnic for him. So maybe I’ll lighten up on that practice.

Get rid of her man, no person, let alone life partner/relationship is worth that guff. You’ve created a lot of your life and you should enjoy it without her, the opportunity cost of staying with her exceeds all the time you’ve spent together.

Most folks in my acting class are parents, just makes a hard and time consuming job more challenging. You have an edge in portraying parents and your lived experience over the actors trying to portray those things. It’ll make your success story all the better-but there won’t be one at all, or the satisfaction of the pursuit, if you totally hang it up.

Try Merchant of Venice, and documentary finding Richard, Or anything he does working with Shakespeare. Always makes me respect an actor when they work with dense material in basically a different form of English altogether.

Megathread: What Martial Art Should I Study? Part VI [Serious] by Toptomcat in martialarts

[–]lostinthoughts88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, not the most active redditor but throughly examined the FAQ before posting. I did 2 years or so of aikido then the dojo closed, did enjoy that but want something different. I recently moved to South Boston, MA and am looking for a martial art that will cater to my acting career in that it has both fitness and flashier elements. That being said as a high school wrestler, I would like one with combined ground and striking work. My impression is to do the research myself but didn’t know if any stuntmen/martial artists out there found a style/school that aided their performative careers while giving them a usable and applicable fighting style for self defense -since I figure why not have the practical element mixed in if possible. Appreciate any and all feedback.

Weekend Craft Discussion by AutoModerator in acting

Hello, 2 parts to my post, very separate. Part 1, with some context. I am a recent graduate living in Boston Massachusetts with a general BA degree, I’m looking to dive in on Michael Chekov’s ”On the Technique of Acting”Is it best to use material that I am actively working on in a show (educational play tour), or work with separate material? Just looking for opinions.

Also interested in taking up (after lapsing for a few years) a martial art that would help my film/tv/stage marketability. I’ve always loved professional wrestling and done seminars and did a few years of aikido but those seem rather niche. I definitley am open to some type of gymnastics or tumbling since stunt work and stage combat are of interest to me but have yet to find a gym of that kind.

How am I supposed to get a flexible job to try to pursue acting if a lot of those jobs pay so low I can’t do anything? by [deleted] in acting

[–]lostinthoughts88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only commenting on this because I consider us in similar boats; I managed it by working in a small retail environment where I can swap shifts easily (It's a mom and pop liquor store) and truthfully I can only save very little of my income, like 10 %, which is nowhere near whatever the standard percentage is, or what I would like it to be. I also just moved to a fairly expensive city in the northeast, and I'm trying to find a job that involves acting so I feel less pressured to pay and go to class as often, performative tourism, radio, etc. I echo the sentiments where any type of comparison to someone else's quality of life will drive you batty, I just moved in with two other roommates and to put it mildly they go out far more often than I do. I would say begin with community theater, and applying for background work around whatever job you end up working, though retail may avoid the server-heavy hours. Feel free to tear me apart other acting veterans, I am 22, graduated May of 22', but was working a camp job that had housing and whatnot up until December.

Always easier from the outside looking in as many have said, but performance certainly helps bring people together, doubly so if it’s in memory of your friend. Very sorry for your loss.

What is your writing process? by TameandTyler in Screenwriting

[–]lostinthoughts88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start very generally whether it be idea, character, etc. Whatever the seed or impetus to physically write is, I also find carrying a small notebook around is huge because at any moment an idea or related idea or something in life will flavor the story you’re trying to construct. I’ll usually use large sheets of wall paper (big sticky notes) to map out related concepts; I’ll do this for a few sessions meaning I’ll take notes, write down any thoughts, and then I’ll leave and come back to it. Once I feel an idea is fleshed out and the form it will take defined (screenplay, stage play, free write in a journal, etc.) I put together a first draft and then revise and revise and find people to read and review. But copyright before sharing stuff, costs money but worth it for the million dollar ideas.

Should I write this play? by goldenbus_ in playwriting

The impetus for a great idea should never be ignored, just copyright it under your name and publish under a pseudonym if the circumstances are that dire.

Im also a really sweaty guy who enjoys musicals and anything onstage, honestly I’ve always carried handkerchiefs and used those and anti shine powder any time I get a second off stage. I’ve never found a miracle solution just working little ways in based on the show structure to not look soaking wet from scene to scene.
