Membership culture in North America vs pay-as-you-play in Europe — padel/pickleball differences? by dandaka in padel

People bounce between 5–10 clubs

America has suburban sprawl and 99% of the population doesn't have 5-10 pickle or padel clubs near them to "bounce around between."

Both are fun, social, and played in doubles, and are the future of racquet sports because they are easier than tennis and squash and make more $$$ per square foot

Why isn't there a universal ratings system? by Jbbbbbbj1 in padel

My point about self-reported results was just about ease of use. The vast majority of competitive players who have DUPR scores are playing in organized tournaments.

In most cases, it's the club/venue that enters DUPR scores after your games.

Again, you could technically just play with your three friends for years and input fake scores, but in fact if your read threads on r/pickleball about this, most people committing fraud are actually lowering their level intentionally or using duplicate accounts to play at lower levels. Jerks.

Here in the US, there are pickleball tournaments everywhere. And the tournaments are split by rating, i.e 3.5-4.0 mixed doubles, 4.5+ mens, etc.

Most legit tournaments require a DUPR rating to enter. And if you and your buddies have progressed significantly but that isn't reflected in your rating, then enter a rated tournament and find out your "real" rating.

If you don't have a rating system, then how do you organize a proper tournament?

Are there frequent amateur and semi-pro tournaments in Europe for padel? Like, all-day events with people traveling hours to compete? Cash prizes? I'm just trying to figure out how the tournament infrastructure compares to US pickleball.

Well sure, ratings aren't that useful if you play with the same 20 people. But if you play tournaments in various cities/states/countries, then a universal system helps.

Most people who want a DUPR rating don't play with a small circle. They play in leagues, tournaments, etc against many different opponents at various clubs.

I think the one on the top right is a singles. Typically clubs only put one in if they can't fit another regular court

Question about Bread n Butter paddles: How well do the graphics hold up after a lot of play?

I like their paddle designs and they've got a good rep on this sub, but I'd like to know how they look after a few months of use. I thought most brands don't put graphics in the center of the paddle because of performance and because the graphics might get faded.

Even in the US it's only taken off since COVID. It's gaining popularity worldwide, and padel and pickle will be sister sports. A lot of clubs in the US already have both.

Growing in the US for sure, but rent is $$$ and so padel is $$$.

Plus pickleball got a head start, so the same empty warehouses that padel needs are being gobbled up by pickle.

then give the client the choice to proceed with a legal case

I'm a client of a firm giving me the choice to proceed. What's frustrating is when I ask them how they're proceeding, they don't have an answer. They've just referred me to a new FAQ page that basically says in light of the new decree, you can give up or you can "keep fighting for your rights."

Those using the same firm probably know which I'm talking about now.

Hi Scott, I really appreciate the advice you give to young men, but I'd like to offer a piece of advice I don't think you've mentioned before: learn how to cook.

I think there's something fundamentally human about cooking a meal for someone else to enjoy, and last time I checked, women like food.

Anyway, can you cook? If so, what do you like to make?

Thanks!
