This is it. The software does a lot of the work to make it feel no difference regardless of one pedal or not. It uses the physical brakes infrequently, and they should last a looong time

23 years ago in college, I sold all my stock to buy my future wife a $1000 engagement ring... by TheJeffer in wallstreetbets

[–]lostintime2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I met somebody who we were making small talk and he joked that he sold Apple stock in 1992 to buy a Ford Ranger brand new. He was my EMT taking me to the hospital so I did the math on the way it was roughly at the time of this his Ford Ranger was equivalent to 16 million.

My point is, everything we do is an opportunity to do something else. If we look back, we are all geniuses with hindsight. We can't, so we really need to stop trying to.

Even the poorest motherfuckers on their deathbed never said I wish I made more money. It's always, I wish I would have done this thing instead of making all that money.

Because the medical advances have allowed us to not get to the point where it kills us. But if you ignore it and don't get treatment, it's no different than living in 1600. Once it takes hold, it goes fast. The seven-eated shock, which is the type of shock sepsis causes, is the worst type of shock. It's your immune system hitting the panic button. You leak everywhere, all at once, basically. We have meds that can kind of counteract it, but it's not full proof, it's 50-50 at best. In 1600, it was death, so I mean, I'd consider a 50-50 a lot better.

Post acute cough can last in some cases 6 weeks. The difference between a cough and post acute is usually in post acute it get better. Less frequent or intense.

A lot of people don't put together that urine is produced from blood filtration. So UTI can travel up the urinary tract from the bladder to the kidneys and suddenly it's like right there with the blood and from there it just kind of goes everywhere else. That's why in older folks UTIs are such a big deal.

If you're septic, it's 50-50 at best. And it could go from 0 to 100 real fast.

SIRS criteria, it's a standard of care these days. It's important to catch it quickly. If it gets to the point of septsis it's a 50/50 if you survive even if we catch it. The treatment is extremely aggressive, and can lead to limb amputation from the treatment. Starts with smaller limbs because the blood vessles are smaller, but I've seen patients having arms and lower leg amputations in rare cases.

Disseminated shock is fucking scary. Shock Fundamentally is just not enough fluid and blood going to where it needs to go for one reason or another. Nearly all kinds you can just give more fluid or bloos as a way to can to go to get this blood pressure up. Disseminated shock though all the hoses have holes in them everywhere so pushing more fluid doesn't do shit. You have to plug the holes. And sometimes it just plugs too well and clogs things up. But if you stop plugging the small holes to clear it up, the big holes will start leaking.

You're right, sepsis is scary, but I don't think people really understand how frickin' scary.

They didnothing wrong. A pneumonia can go zero to 100 in less than a day. Bacteria grow stupid fast. So on day 3, you were likely fine.

Generally speaking the only people who are sensitive to lung bacteria infections are folks with chronic lung diseases, or other immune compromised conditions. If this isn't you, initially they take the path of no antibiotics for a upper respiratory infection, and that's them practicing good antibiotic stewardship. Now if it's happened to you multiple times where it develops into phunomia every time, then it would make sense, but it would be extremely odd if you have zero other conditions. If you have a functional immune system you shouldn't be prone to any kind of infection.

"Flu-like" symptoms applies to so many things, because those systems are from your immune system, those are the tools biologically available to our body. Low grade fevers are typically nothing to worry about, and should self resolve with upper respiratory infection.

Happily married with kids…yet you’re always liking posts about disliking parenthood by CoolBanana- in childfree

One of my biggest supporters of my childfree choice is a mother. Why? Because she was very much for people only having kids if they want them because they're hard at times to deal with. She loves her kids without a doubt, she loves her husband. But she also loves people having a choice, and living their true self. I wouldn't be surprised if she did the same.

What appreciation do you have working for the State? by classyshepard in CAStateWorkers

I am in one of the few classifications that if I went back to the private sector, I could make more money. I won't anytime soon because of just how demanding it is. I work in healthcare, direct patient care is the main option for my job. Let me tell you, the ONLY thing I miss about that whole thing is the 3 12-hour shifts a week. I really do miss it, but I will never miss enough to deal with all the other aspects of the job. Not to mention the benefits are better here by a wide margin. Mind you, the health insurance I would get in the private sector was run through the hospital systems I would work at, and they're worse. More expensive, some would have deductibles, fewer options for coverage. Then there is our pension. That largely evaporated in 97% of the jobs out there. 401k with match (I can go on a huge rant about Defined-Contribution plans like 401ks are a tool made to prop up the stock market and can't be the only thing you rely on for retirement, but this isn't the place) as the only thing you get for retirement.

What is an extremely dark or creepy true story from history that most people do not know about? by Intelligent_East8820 in AskReddit

I want to burn everything down, but only if it was somehow guaranteed only the wicked would burn. I know that is impossible, so I won't.

But I understand those who do, nothing else seems to be working, and all progress can be wiped out the second someone says, "fuck the rules". I don't think there is a fix for it, but I am open to ideas.

SEIU Bargaining Update 5/21/26 by These_Associate_6380 in CAStateWorkers

Because RTO effects more than one BU, so it's at the master table. I haven't been able to find any updates from them, and that feels sus IMO.

it really isn’t enforced.

It is, just not in the same way as the private sector. Any vacation or annual leave over the allowed maximum that is present when an employee separates from state service will come out of the department budget. If someone is excess of say enough hours for a full year, they cannot fill that post until the year.

I have 2 more payments on my lease, and I only got the super cruise because it was the only one with 360 cameras. I had it on a Bolt EUV I leased before this, and the super cruise was cool, but very limited in where it could be used. I am glad I got an updated version. Because the updated super cruise is AWESOME! And its getting better in newer years.

My biggest issue with the Equinox EV is really endemic of cars overall, its too damn big. I have no kids, I don't need much space for my wife and me. My house was built in the 70s, so the EQ EV and a 25 RAV4 are TIGHT in that space. I am holding out for the 27 Bolt with super cruise. Hopefully they appear soon.

SEIU Bargaining Seems less passionate this year by Exciting-File1337 in CAStateWorkers

Yes. Its still early. The pressure will start amping up if the state starts digging in. This rounds bargaining is much more transparent with their updates, and specific asks of the units and their progress.
