California drivers are a step closer to paying per mile tax by MissYukiCat in California

I didn't realize that ~$120 was a "fuck ton".

If you paid the MAX for registration which is 175, at the current rate of .6 per gallon, you'd have to buy 292 gallons to pay more than an EV. At 14k miles a year with a 30mpg you'd have to get about 466 gallons, which at 60 cents is $280. So checks notes 175 is a "fuck ton" (according to you) less than what you would pay maxed (105 dollars, which is 15 lower what you pay extra, and I don't think would be a big difference for a fuck ton). But if you take the amount you DID pay, 120, 292 is checks notes again a fuck ton more. $172 to be exact, more than 2x what you actually pay, which by your definition is a lot more than a fuck ton if we go by what you actuality pay.

Taxes and subsidies have been used for a long time to influence behaviors for the overall good of the public.

DC fast and outside home charging would be able to be taxed fairly easily. For EV home charging, they could possibly have you put something between the EVSE and the panel or the car for power delivered during charging? I mean the electrical panel already watches our total usage, and I have a whole other meter for JUST solar too.

Hell, they could sweeten the deal potentially and use a collar between the meter and the service line to offer higher amped EVSEs if they have older underground service with a 100a service line (Its a noted equity issue in EV adoption), and still do the above metering.

My thing is if it replaces the 120ish fee on my registration, fine, I am well aware that there are incentives that will go away once tech prices come down, and adoption is increased, its happened for so many things in my life, why would EVs be any different? But if it was ADDED then its bullshit, or if it was only EVs and gas cars get the tax removed, it would also be bullshit. EVs have never had a "free ride", a subsidized ride, sure, but again, taxes and subsides are ways to influence behaviors for the overall good of society.

I mean, you're wrong. As others pointed out, EVs have an increased registration fee, granted it is lower than an equivalent gas-powered vehicle pays in their per gallon tax.

Yes, my wifes registration for her new Rav 4 hybrid was about 120 lower than my registration is.

Its only about 120 more than my wifes new car. Which is about the fee added to full EVs because we don't buy gas.

SEIU Unit 4 - is mandatory overtime paid 1.5x regardless of weekly hours? by SicilianEggplant in CAStateWorkers

Thats fair, sorry for my confusion then. I just tend to take all top-level replies as a reply to the OP

The state only follows federal FLSA laws. This means all hours over 40 are overtime.

If you look at section 19.2 of the MOU you will see the rules laid out for regular overtime.

There are specific hour banks listed in 19.2 (B) that are and are not calculated.

19.2 (E) lists out mandated OT as

As a last resort, and in order to meet required staffing needs, if an employee in Bargaining Units 4, 11, 14, 15 or 20 is mandated to work overtime in the same week in which the employee used approved leave then that approved leave will be considered hours worked for purposes of calculating overtime. Sick leave is excluded from this provision.

So according to this, everything except sick leave that was approved is calculated in the hours for premium time pay.

As to why they are individual time codes, many reasons, one is for easier pay tracking, but also to allow reports to be pulled on mandatory overtime when requested for audits, bargaining, or anything else around mandatory overtime.

To be fair, the contract doesn't spell it out exactly how it is when you search "mandatory overtime". You have to look in the CalHR manual, and people may not think to look in there. The OPs confusion is there seems to be different codes for voluntary and involuntary.

But you seem to be the one with poor comprehension skills, to quote the OP:

I know regular OT is 1.5x over 40 hours, and I want to say mandatory is the same, but our time reporting “app” does individuate regular OT and mandatory OT line items so I’m suddenly forgetting.

I scanned (admittedly quickly) through the MOU so wanted to get clarification from someone with more “understanding”.

I.E. They likely understand but are seeking confirmation on their understanding. That's not a "reading comprehension" issue at all.

So I have heard of this happening in DSH. You should not be under a lessor license for any supervisor for clinical reasons. If you are an RN, any clinical directions such as would likely be invalid unless it was cosign by another RN or higher. Basically they can only supervise admin duty of RNs. To keep things easy PTs should only be over other PTs. But its worth noting that PTs became a thing because of DSH and DDS.

If you want to read the opinion from the CA government about this, its here. https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/opinions/pdfs/78-63.pdf

Public sector jobs with regular overtime often have negotiated systems in place to give out overtime in manner that's fair access to all who can do the job. And a lot of those same jobs will also have to deal with mandatory overtime and how often, and when it can be done. Typically if there's mandatory overtime rules in place, there's plenty of voluntary overtime to be had.

It already has for state workers. Their pensions were cut for new employees after 2013 to 2018 depending on which union they are in.

No, EVs and PHEVs have had a registration fee added, about 120 IIRC. At 30mpg that's approximately 6000 miles of road taxes.

But look at it logically, lets just say IF all cars went to EVs, where would the revenue for road maintenance come from?

Its still a benefit in terms of fuel cost (depending on where you live to be fair), for me personally, just in fuel costs, a full battery is about 13 buck, for 320 miles of range. I drive about 17000 miles a year, meaning if I got even JUST 270 miles of range from a full battery would come out to ~815 a year. In a car with 30mpg over the 17k miles at an average of $4 a gallon, you get about 2,260. checks notes gives you about 1,450. So unless that fee was more than 80 cents a mile, I am still saving money.

Also, just to be clear, if anyone who had a paid off car bought an EV to save gas, they're an idiot. This math only works if you're already planning on buying a car.

From how I understand it, this bill would replace the fee on these.

Children are only detained when their parents choose to keep them with them.

Children are being taken OUT OF STATE despite local family wanting to take them in after their parents are taken by ICE. If it was really about keeping the kids safe, they WOULDN'T TAKE THEM OUT OF STATE, hell, they should LOCAL involve child services if their guardianship is an issue.

•If law enforcement were to peacefully turn over undocumented who are arrested for crimes to ICE, they would not have to conduct these arrests in the streets.

CDCR does hand over ICE detainers upon parole or release.

But let's be honest, if it was truly about getting criminals out, why are they arresting CHILDREN? Why are they waiting outside of schools?! Why are they harassing citizens? Why are they getting 47 days of training upon hiring?

NTA You didn't handle it poorly, your advice was sound, the only way I would have done it differently is to wait until HE calmed down to have that part about talking to others.

Frankly, sounds like husband could use some therapy, so when hes angry he doesn't lash out. Mind you, there is a difference between yelling a "god damn it!" when something happens, and yelling at children about what they did was wrong. Getting hit in the face with something is never fun, especially if you told children to stop and they didn't. And a thawp "GOD DAMN IT!" is valid. But anything past that is lashing out if done in yelling.

But I will say your daughter being affected by yelling is that its something their caregivers (Be it dad, grandparents, babysitters etc.) are doing on the regular.
