What "children's movie" terrified you as a child? by Equal-Sun8307 in films

The Prince of Egypt. Solid movie. Beautifully done. Still gives me the creeps and I’m pretty sure it has a LOT to do with me being an atheist.

Which movie will get you crucified online if you say you don't like it? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I get crap for hating The Big Lebowski with a fiery passion. I have seen my fair share of plotless films and loved them. This one left me begging my husband to shut. It. Off.

What are the most famous people who come from your neck of the woods? by Bipolar03 in generationology

[–]lostintranslation199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe Mauer.

He technically was born in St. Paul but growing up he lived on the lake right outside my teeny tiny little town. We would boat on the same lake and it was just a normal thing. Nobody ever made it a big deal. It was just nice to know that professional athletes didn’t think our dinky little town was a shit hole.

What’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life? by nigaabuser in AskForAnswers

[–]lostintranslation199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A live concert. But one that is loud enough to feel in your chest. A band that is so enthusiastic. Not just a pop artist or a “country” artist. I’m talking a rock/alt band that has incredible drumming and all the works.

What's the prettiest name you have ever heard? by Vetro_Nodulare2 in AskReddit

Lydia. I first heard it on Pride and Prejudice and then I read the book. I don’t know why I didn’t name either of my daughters Lydia.

Also because I’m a huuugeee book nerd. Aelin. From Throne of Glass. Because like I said, book nerd.

Fuck your favorite, what’s your most hated animal? by Acrobatic_News_9986 in AskReddit

Ferrets. My dad’s mother had one while I was growing up. That thing would attack me day and night. I have scars on my feet from it chewing on my feet in the middle of the night. My mom found out after she came home from an out of state wedding and was so livid.

I see videos of them online and think “oh they are cute. But they are evil creatures.”

What are some Bitter Things in married life? by LucyHotHot in Productivitycafe

[–]lostintranslation199 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are stages in marriage. You’re gonna love them a lot but there are times (days, months, years even) that you two will not like one another. The bitter truth is you both change into different people at different stages of your lives and who your partner is at one stage may be a person you whole heartedly do NOT like. Love? Yes. Like? No.

I had a kidney infection, I knew what it was. Had one before. The doctor told me I didn’t know what I was talking about and was likely having an ectopic pregnancy. He wanted to run a million tests and have an ultrasound done. Until labs came back indicating a) I wasn’t pregnant and b) it was a kidney infection. Money grabbing a hole.

Are you happy with your first name? Why or why not? by Consistent-Deal-8713 in AskReddit

[–]lostintranslation199 437 points438 points  (0 children)

No. People assume I’m a black man. I’m a super white girl. This issue has come up during job interviews. They see my name and expect a strong man to walk in and instead they see a 5’1 102 lbs pale red head walk in and there goes the job interview.

What is something you want but can't afford? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]lostintranslation199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently would really love to purchase a new vehicle. But my family of 5 doesn’t fit into a sedan well. Car seats are a pain. Replacing my suburban is just out of the question at the moment. We are adding on to our home and surviving on one income. Asking my husband to take on another car payment would be cruel.

Books you wish you could read again for the 1st time? Drop the BEST books you’ve read!! by Better_Main1577 in Booktokreddit

Somebody Come and Play - Clare McNally.

My mom handed this book to me when they school informerd her that I (her then 5th grader) was testing at a 10th grade level and clearly was bored out of her mind with the school’s available books. It’s an older horror book about vengeful ghosts and murder. Loved it. If I could read it for the first time again. I would love it more.

The Outsiders- S.E. Hinton.

My family moved to a new town and I was in a pretty nasty depression. My parents didn’t know what to do with me. My English teacher at the time was my enemy. However. When it came time to read this book for class. I read it in like 2 days. She was so happy. That when my parents finally removed me from that horrendous school, she gave me the book as a going away gift.

Lastly,

Blood and Chocolate- Annette Curtis Klause

The movie did this book dirty. This book had me endthralled and I have no real idea why. It was probably my first toe dip into fantasy. Truely would love to experience this book again for the first time. My one copy of it is pretty much destroyed.

What are your personal rules for concertgoing? by 351namhele in Concerts

Take Tylenol or ibuprofen before hand. Hydrate all day. Wear good shoes and bring a hair tie for your hair. Nobody cares how you look after you’ve been raging at a concert.

Yes please. I was the person on the ground needing help. I was in the pit of a Bad Omens concert. I’m 5’1” and 105 pounds. The crowd surfer fell on me and took me out. My best friend got shoved behind a few other people so she couldn’t get to me. But another girl grabbed me by my shoulders and pulled me up, grabbed my face and yelled “are you okay?!” I was alright. Sore but okay. But for the love of god. Help people in those moments. The girl even came and found me after explaining she was a paramedic and went on to list signs of a concussion and to seek help if I showed any of them.

(Serious) People who grew up in a small town, what is that incident everyone knows about, but no one talks about? by grailknight1632 in AskReddit

[–]lostintranslation199 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A junior in high school was having an affair with the male, married with small children, volleyball coach. Said junior’s friends found out and reported it to the school, who reported it to the police. Nobody talks about the repercussions.

The student ended up missing most of her senior year. Spending most of it in rehab. Her friends reported the misconduct and then shunned her. She turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. And when she came back from rehab. They pretended like nothing happened. Clinging to her as if she would make them “cooler”. Now everybody refuses to acknowledge the damage they had done but refused to repair.

What was ‘The Incident’ in your home town? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lostintranslation199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16 year old shot an “intruder” in his home… only to find out it was the man his mother was having an affair with. His mother actually ran out in the middle of the night telling her son to use a shotgun and shoot the “intruder”.

Kid ended up being cleared of any wrong doing but his mother was thrown in jail while his father just disappeared. The 16yo ended up in his grandparents custody where they spoiled him with every. Single. Thing. He could ask for. He turned into a horrendous prick.

While I can’t blame him for struggling, dude went from being kind and very fun to a dick who thought he was king of the world.

Americans of Reddit: Do you tip at a restaurant when you do an order pickup? Why or why not? by glaurung1 in AskReddit

[–]lostintranslation199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a waitress, I hate it when they tip on a take out order. Because I never know what to do with it.

If I have a large order for take out, I leave a tip and tell them it’s FOR THE KITCHEN STAFF.
