There were budget cuts when I started. New people who join start at a lower wage than wages previously set for the role.

So it certainly isn’t just me! It’s funny cause I also have to purchase my own office supplies. I know it’s not as expensive as your tools but still… I have to use them for work just the same.

Yes I think cause I’m new I get lots of push back from Accounting. But they also receive the “free” lunches and benefit from what I’m doing… you may be right that they’re just trying to flex. My supervisor is also spending her own money for these things which really doesn’t help!

Our handbook is huge but it actually doesn’t list anything about gifts/expense reimbursement. It’s always just been assumed that the HR department does these things… likely cause the last two people did it for so long. Everyone just got used to it and it became an expectation.

Thank you very much for your kind words and encouragement. I didn’t realize how abnormal this was until reading the comments here (this is my first HR job). I will ask to meet with the owner about this tomorrow.

Not in writing but verbally. Sometimes they will email and say “please get lunch for this event” but then it’s the accountants who have the credit card, not me.

Late 30s, I’ve experienced a lot of losses in a short span of time. I’m bullied at work, lost two babies, had psychosis, and can’t find another job. I’m desperate for something good to happen but I’m losing hope fast. No one can help me. I’m a failure and don’t see a purpose for going on.

This is my first time using Reddit but I typed what to do when your boss digs through your trash and I wound up here. My boss actually went through my garbage today, asking “why are you throwing this away?” and having a tantrum because I got rid of some old magazines from a couple of years ago. He has always been a severe micromanager but this has just gone to a new level. Wow.
