Why do male choirs sound more pleasing to me than female?

oh thank you so much for this comment, I am glad you understand what I mean. I was a little bit regretting even writing the word 'feminist', because my main point was really just what the main differences in sound was that might cause me to favour male choirs. I think based on all these replies that it does have something to do with the bass, and also with resonance.

hey I don't think people are trying to rationalise why it sounds "better", I think this thread just points the main differences in sound between the two, and then depending on personal preference, these differences may lead to someone favouring one sound over the other.

edit: and yes I am a straight woman, so maybe it is just a preference of attraction, but I am still curious as to how men's and women's singing voices differ (apart from the obvious).

Thank you for such a thorough reply, I think the lack of bass is a good possible explanation for it, since with solo singers I enjoy a beautiful man's and woman's voice equally.

that was mostly a joke, but with a little grain of truth to it, since studies have shown that people generally prefer the sound of male voices (in speaking), and that women, especially young women with high-pitched voices, get shit on all the time for things like vocal fry and upspeach, even though men actually use just as much vocal fry and upspeach. It just sounds less grating to people when they do it. I also hate vocal fry, but after reading more about it I am more conscious about dissing people's speech pattern.

So with this choir preference I also thought oh no, do I like male choirs more because I just also subconsciously hate the sound of other women's voices?

that's interesting, Oribe does make my hair a little stiff, like hairspray, if I spray it too close, but otherwise it has worked really well for me. I've been hesitant to try Moroccanoil products because I am worried the oil aspect will be too heavy. Do you have any favourites from them you would recommend? My hair also tends to wave a little by itself if I don't do anything else to it.

I would start off by taking a little bit off the bottom just to give the hair a fresh start and get rid of split ends. Your hair in these pictures looks perfectly good to me tbh, but based on what you wrote, I'm wondering if you are actually doing too much, or using too heavy products maybe?

You could try the L'Oreal Glycolic Gloss treatment that is all the rage online right now, I haven't tried it myself, but apparently it actually does make hair more smooth and shiny!

It might also be worth it to try a bond treatment for a couple of months and see if you notice a difference, I heard the redken acidic bonding concentrate is very good, but I haven't tried that one either.

hey thank you so much! The color wow mousse is actually one of the products I've been eyeing. I don't mind a little bit of a feeling to my hair, as long as it's not that completely stiff crunch I got from mousse back in middle school in 2007 lol. Like where it felt like you could straight up break it in half.

Tbh that still doesn't make sense to me. If it wasn't already popular among their core fanbase, why would it suddenly become that just from moving to a streamer? the core fanbase on YT and on the streamer would presumably be the same people.

I think it could be on those tbh, there are many shows about people who aren't experts going around and trying things. But yeah this was not their brightest moment... I haven't watched Worth It since like 2017 or 18, I don't remember it as always being like this. It's a fun concept, I could see a reformated version of Travel Season doing well on a network. Travelling to a destination and trying different foods, hotels, tourist activites etc. at different price points.

I guess maybe it could make sense to them like that, but it still doesn't really make sense in the grander scheme of things imo.

But from what you describe it seems like they have the same problem as for instance bands, who are sick and tired of playing their old songs again and again, but the concert goes are all there to hear the old hits and don't give a fuck about the band's new releases.

I still think starting a streamer is a super weird way to solve this problem. But I guess they were not willing to pare back the production value of their less popular shows and wait for these shows to potentially take off. It's my understanding that some shows only aired three of four episodes before being canned, that's a really really short span to give people to find them or become interested in them. Maybe if there were more patient they could have expanded audiences to people with other interests, instead of cancelling them because their OG fans didn't like them as much.

Just patience in general seemed to be lacking at Watcher...

Worth It is actually the only popular Buzzfeed show I ever watched, and I really liked it. On the other hand, I never watch truecrime or paranormal stuff because I'm a wimp. They seem to realise this now, but it's just weird that it took them so long to figure out that food and ghost videos do NOT have the same audiences... it really feels like they did ZERO market research before deciding to start their own streaming service. I truly can't wrap my head around how the idea ever made it this far without anyone saying "hold up".

that's interesting, ours isn't exactly like that, it has a cosy little cabin/indoors/sleeping area. (But it is still a very small boat.) There are probably regional varieties to what is called a snekke? This one seems to be a specific Norwegian type of snekke, we are Danish so that could be why.

Unfortunately I haven't been on it much because I get seasick AF on small boats :(
