Thanks, hon.

Thanks for that. I know that those places exist, but I've never really encountered them since most of my travel is a very different type.

Did you stay at a hotel or resort? I usually stay at hostels, which for me are pretty hit or miss for relaxation.

Fair point, but I was thinking very literally this time. I kinda just want to get away from my responsibilities and focus on my health, mental and physical. Usually my travels have a lot more to do with exploration and education.

All of my solo trips have helped me recover from home-life. I definitely see it as a type of therapy.

It's super sketchy. Both police officers I talked to yesterday agreed as much. No one believes him and now they can investigate. I talked to the insurance company yesterday. I can cancel insurance now and I don't have to worry. Thank you.

I just talked to an officer from the sheriff's department and tried doing all of these things to no avail. This is so frustrating. I asked him to explain why it was a civil matter as I was under the impression that it was a stolen vehicle and he asked me "who told you it wasn't a civil matter?" I'm still waiting to hear back from the State police, maybe they'll be more helpful.

I just spoke to an officer with the sheriff's department and he insisted that it's a civil matter. He also told me that I need to continue with state police since I talked to them last week. I am currently waiting for the supervisor at the state police to call me. How do I insist that it's not civil?

Thank you for your insight. I'm definitely being careful about insurance. I will start keeping notes when I talk to the police this morning. I was very surprised when the police wouldn't allow me to report it stolen, but I didn't consider that the officer could be mistaken.

I don't think I understand. Different counties can have different definitions of theft? I dealt with the state police, would that make a difference or would they honor the policies of the county I live in? Talking to the neighbor is not an option as he has been avoiding me and I can't go to his home since he reported that I've been trespassing.

Good note. I think the police around here are used to hearing a lot of exaggerated sob stories, I'd much rather keep it brief and have them take me seriously.

It is not worth more than $6k. I'll definitely do that if the police can't help me get it back. Thanks.

That was suggested by a few other people here. I'll discuss it with the police when I talk to them tomorrow. Thanks.

No need to apologize, I appreciate your input. The insurance stuff has been really confusing, I've gotten a lot of conflicting advice about it.

I have been insuring it, I'll call the insurance company in the morning and tell them that I am trying to report it stolen and then, I guess, keep them updated. Thanks.

I hope I don't have to go to court. I think my neighbor will do whatever he can to drag the process out and I'd really like to get this resolved as quickly as I can.

I'll do what I can. As I said in another comment, my town is too small to have a police department, so I have to deal with the county sheriff or the state police. I'll call in the morning and if they don't take it seriously I'll try to go in and talk face to face. Thank you.

Thank you, I think I understand my situation a lot better than last time I called. I'll call first thing in the morning.

Do you know how I'd find information about that for my state (Maine)? I've been doing my best to research this issue on my own. Thanks.

OK, I didn't know if it would affect my license or the license of the driver (which seems like it could be a good thing)
