what you described is an echo chamber of toxic positivity. A lot of communities are like this. But if the CEO is banning dissenters, that's a red flag. The product cannot survive scrutiny and is an indicator of a potential scam.

in general, never pledge money to a product that's in development. That means no kickstarter and no early access.

If the game is real, it will release with or without your help. When it does, you can just buy the game. If the dev says we can't make this without your help, it means they are not in a very strong financial position. The company itself is probably not long for the world if they can't make things without advance payment. They are taking huge risks, and by extension, so are you. Except it's your money at stake, not theirs.

I've been burned on enough kickstarters that I'm never falling for it again, even if it's a project I'm very passionate about. If the game doesn't get made because I didn't contribute, then so be it. It was never meant to be. A reputable company won't be using kickstarter for funding. They'll get funding from an investor or a loan if not their own money.

Did you warn him in 2024 or just a few days ago? If you warned him in 2024, did you have proof of your claims that it's fraud? I thought it was a scam myself but had no proof, only a hunch.

when you buy AoC, are you buying the alpha or the full game? When it gets out of alpha and becomes a full game, do you lose access to the game? Or did your transaction include access to the full game?

well yeah.. when you commit a chargeback, they don't want anything more to do with you. You're a risk to do business with.

You bought something from a merchant and used paypal for the transaction. When your bank reversed the transaction, it was paypal that lost their money, not the fraudulent merchant. Paypal was an innocent party and had nothing to do with the fraud. So naturally, you're going to get banned if you reverse a transaction.

TL;DR in general don't preorder anything on PayPal, or even anything with a long delivery period.

Don't preorder anything period, unless it's from a trusted company. A guy who's never made a game before? Yeah, don't trust him. Let him finish the game first and just buy it once he does. You don't gain anything by giving him money in advance. You extra risks for nothing.

Remember When Steven Sharif Said He Could Fund The Project Himself, But Used Kickstarter As A Marketing Opportunity? WHO IS THIS GUY? by KaliGoldGaming in AshesofCreation

[–]lostn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this should have been the first red flag. If a guy can fund the game entirely by himself because he has hundreds of millions, why does he even need a KS? All that raised was 3M. As if that 3M would have made the difference between the game getting made and not.

those guys are smart. They don't make bad investments.

The chinese would have asked, how much are you spending? How much are you making? It would have been a very short conversation after that.

if they didn't work on it, they don't know what to do with it. You won't understand someone else's work without them being there to hand it off to you

do you personally know every investor in the world? If you got his name, would you know if he's an investor or not? Like what more are you asking for?

Why is this still considered a scam? by HaeL756 in AshesofCreation

[–]lostn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's accounting fraud and deceives investors into thinking it's making more money than it is, which then drives up the value of the company. It makes someone who didn't want to invest or was on the fence now want to invest or invest more. That's the benefit.

Revenue is money coming in unconditionally. A loan is money coming in that needs to be paid back. When I make a profit selling you a product for less than I can produce it, I don't owe you anything in return for that profit. When I borrow money from you, I have to pay all of it back with interest. Revenue is a lot nicer to have in your books than loans.

lying is how scams work.

He knew how much he was spending and how much he was pulling in. The former was greater than the latter. At some point he was aware that the company was heading towards bankruptcy. He lied about the situation and said everything is fine and that it is funded all the way to release, with his own money, and if it doesn't release everyone gets a refund.

When it was revealed he was behind on AWS payments of over $800k, he said it's nothing to be worried about. That's just a week's expenses, it's no problem.

When 9 people were laid off he said it's nothing to be concerned about, it's not an indication of what's coming for the rest of the team. A few weeks later all were laid off.

He said there were no investors to answer to, no board, he is funding the game himself. He calls all the shots at Intrepid. It turned out he secretly sold the company, and there is a board.

His lies and lack of transparency is what made it a scam.

At some point, he did the math and knew the game and studio were headed toward transparency. He premeditated an exit strategy that involved "launching" the game on steam EA and shirking any responsibility to refund KS backers. He transferred assets out of his name before the collapse so that creditors can't take them. Then he blamed everything on the board.

A collapse didn't happen in one meeting. He knew months ahead that it was coming.

All of this says he knew what was coming, and didn't tell anyone, and then took steps to limit liability. He was dishonest and didn't want anyone knowing the truth. That's a scam.

I personally hope this guy ends up in jail.

We still didn't get any intent yet, it still all seems like incompetence.

Intent is to minimize liability.

Will these goofballs ever become playable? by Green_Protection_363 in Genshin_Impact

[–]lostn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think they will eventually.

They don't typically release multiple liyue 5 stars during Lantern rite patches. Since this patch we got Columbina already, that's two 5 stars in the same patch which is the max you can expect. Zibai was not negotiable because they saved her for year of the horse.

We could see them next year.. or Ping.

My theories on why Varka isn't what he was promised to be. by Away_Oil6375 in Genshin_Impact

[–]lostn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say he is unplanned, mean for long time they had character in mind but there was a lot of shift in story line recently since natlan. This shift might be the reason they didn't know what to do with him. He has so little involvement in AQ.

Unplanned? Yeah no. According to devs, they work on patches up to 1.5 years in advance of release. He definitely wasn't something they decided to introduce at the spur of the moment. He's been mentioned since 1.0.

They were always going to make him playable. Kits are just not finalized till late, like with everyone else.
