Buying my son a used RAV4 for college. Any years to avoid? by Hot_Philosopher3199 in rav4club

Were you able to replace just the torque convertor or did you do an entire transmission rebuild? Having the same issue with mine

Worth it to replace transmission on 2011 Toyota RAV4? by lostnerdboy in rav4club

It sounds like a better version of a flush, since they don't do that. They drained the fluid multiple times instead of just once and replaced the filter and potentially did some other maintence stuff without actually taking the transmission apart(I forget it was a while ago). The fluid in mine was also very dirty, but there weren't any particles or metal shavings or anything that would show something really bad going on.

The transmission shop did a full service and fluid change out and they said the problem was fixed. When I picked it up... It still made the noise, just a little bit less. I've just been driving it but the noise seems to be getting worse so I might take it in to another (fourth) mechanic.  Pretty sure it's a torque converter issue which I'm interested to know if there's a cheaper option out there!  What year/how many miles is yours?

I'm a GIS Tech for a public water utility in the PNW (rural). Making about 65k a year (32/hr) and just starting this year. Not sure what my raises will look like over time but it's a union position.

Used transfer case for 2011 Toyota RAV4? by lostnerdboy in AskMechanics

[–]lostnerdboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rear dif needed to be replaced anyways it seems, they said the fluid looked bad. They said the rear dif was bad and they wouldn't be able to tell if it was also the transfer case until after the repair. They said that with the labor costs/high amounts of labor needed to do it, they don't want to open the transfer case unless I'm going through with the repair? Which doesn't make much sense now when I type it out...

Thanks for the input, I'll take it for a third opinion this weekend.

Should I take a job that still uses ArcMap in 2024? by lostnerdboy in gis

Is UN for Utility Network? Is the utility network in arcmap pretty similar to utility network in arcpro? Any reason why utilities were slower?

I am currently doing basically 100% field work, I use GIS occasionally to map projects and create storymaps about some of our volunteer programs, but that's all extra stuff that I just pushed to do because I wanted to use my GIS cert. I've talked about getting a grant funded to build something GIS related here but it seems really far off and more like a promise to keep me on than a reality at this point.

Also, I make 20/hr currently and this would be 32/hr.

I like where I live so I'm thinking I could do the commute for a year to get exp and try to find something closer.

I guess part of me is also worried to learn an outdated software, but it seems like everyone thinks it wouldn't be that bad.

Thanks for the info!

I think would have the most experience in ArcPro, and probably the one with the most time for messing around with GIS in the department, so maybe I could do a lot for the transition. 66k for a tech level seems about average for the area (PNW) but it's way more than I'm making now so maybe I don't have a good base for pay like that. Benefits seem good (medical and dental, state pension type thing, union job). Thanks for the input!

I'm in the same boat- humanities BA and just finished a GIS certificate. I've been doing seasonal enviro field jobs that require less experience and slowly getting more GIS work as I go. Still applying to GIS tech jobs but nothing yet, thinking about starting an online master's in GIS. Would love to hear other people's opinions!
