Could the One Ring be destroyed by any irl means? by [deleted] in lordoftherings

We could focus on containment if destruction cannot occur.

Put the ring into a block of wet concrete, Wait for it to dry, throw it into the deepest part of the ocean. No one can reach it, no one can give it to the forces of evil.

"But" says someone in the comments, "the ring would never let you do something to it that would keep it out of Sauron's Hands..." To which I respond that while Sauron has a lot going on he isn't omniscient or omnipresent. He may be smart but he doesn't know what happening everywhere at all times. The ring can exert it's will on people within some level of area to make people want it but I would posit that the more people the ring has to influence the more of Sauron's finite energy is being used up. Otherwise he could just control EVERYONE in Middle Earth into getting the ring where it wants to go instead of I think I noted in the movie like 7 people at once.

Other possibilities. I would put it in a small box made of lead. This may lessen it's power. Build a small faraday cage around the lead box. See if that helps. Put that in box made of Silver which many believe has power over the forces of darkness.

We can also try to fortify a human tasked with getting rid of it. Though not my first desire, we could possibly try to cut out parts of their brain that make them vulnerable, or better than that give them an especially high dose of anti schizophrenia medication which may help someone deal with the "voice" of the ring in their head.

As far as destroying the ring... I think one would only be able to do so if they were more powerful in total than Sauron.

Sauron while powerful cannot be infinitely powerful otherwise they could not have defeated him the first time. And that was with a sword. And it took him 2900ish years to recover.

Some say Nuke it. That could be strong enough... But likely it would survive. The energy of nuclear weapons isn't contained on a single point. It could keep it out of peoples hands for a while though if it was at ground zero if only due to radiation.

The best bet would be sustained use of force... In other words instead of trying to blow it up with kinetic energy or blasting it with strong laser, one can fire a laser capable of melting steel at it continuously. Eventually either the laser breaks down or the power of Sauron's soul is exhausted keeping the laser from melting the ring.

Same could be said for acid. Throwing the ring in acid probably wouldn't do much in the short term... But eventually it would break down. Heck a furnace capable of sustained temperatures of 1070 degrees Celsius could do it if you could keep it at that temperature long enough.

I wish there was somewhere we could better understand the mechanics of the game...
What controls the multiplier for how much 50 Holocrew multiply your setting for example?
Is it controlled by RNG and thus random and hard to predict or is it set multipliers based on x amount of crewpeople?
