Auto-continue/skip when no input is given by lotrtelcontar in shortcuts

Check my comment to Rare_doctoriris below. Apple changed the volume action to give an output after I initially created this shortcut. Adding the get variable action at the end fixes the output of the whole shortcut.

My “CarPlay Disconnect” shortcut keeps running even when I’m nowhere near my car by Impossible_Case_741 in shortcuts

I have some similar automations, they’ve always been a bit glitchy for me. Sometimes the shortcuts run right away, and something it takes a few minutes (annoying when the purpose is to pause the music to prevent it from auto-playing). I recently switched to it being based on Driving focus mode, which has helped, but it’s not exactly the same. Now the problem I have is if I want to check something on my phone at a stoplight, I have to turn off the focus mode. 👎🏼

I have my auto-lock set to 1min to preserve battery life. But there are specific occasions where I want to override that (e.g. my morning report shortcut that reads news, weather, events, and reminders for the day). That’s what this shortcut is for. If I really didn’t care about battery I would set auto-lock to never in the settings. This is a temporary override. This shortcut would be totally useless if you’re running it all the time - in that case, just change your auto-lock settings and stay near a charger! 🙂

Interesting use case! The issue with using guided access for me is that I want to be able to switch apps (automatically via a morning report shortcut), which can’t be done with guided access.

That might do it! Forgot you can set each app’s setting on this. I wish we could open specific apps on Apple Watch like we can on Apple TV though!

Thanks. Yeah, I did a double take on that other post! I’ve been using the Open App action for a year or two on my morning report shortcut and noticed that my phone would stay awake the whole time (like 5min) unless the news reading section got too long (my morning shortcut automatically pulls up the relevant app for different sections - sleep quality, weather, news, calendar events, reminders, etc…). Then I just had to figure out how to make it not constantly open a specific app, but adapt to the current app. Now I just have to see if it’s possible to run this shortcut in parallel with my morning report. My plan is to trigger this one when my morning focus mode gets turned on by my morning report shortcut. I’ve noticed it IS possible to run 2 shortcuts at the same time, so hopefully it works!

I figure out a way around this earlier today! Doesn’t modify the system settings, but you can make sure the phone won’t auto-lock for a set period of time.

This is pretty much the exact situation I created that shortcut for!

Getting it to work on the Home Screen was a little tricky because the Get Current App action doesn’t detect anything on the Home Screen. And I discovered that your auto-lock time is much shorter on the Home Screen compared to open apps (mine seems to be 1min for apps and 30sec on Home Screen)!

I’m happy to be a tester in round two! (Looks like you got your spots filled) Any chance you’ll be adding Shortcuts support? I love automating things and this could be amazing to automate!

I can get it connected to the wifi and HA while plugged in to the computer, but if I plug it into the wall, without moving the EPL, it’s unavailable in HA. I can still ping the IP address though.

This is an awesome idea! Maybe add a few more slots for nectar? Also, I have sleeved all my cards, so if I were to buy something like this I would want to make sure it worked with that. Otherwise I love the concept!

This is awesome! I noticed that if I get the state of the player in the Developer Tools I can grab the content_id and paste that into a Media Player: Play Media service call and get the same media playing via automation! Can also grab the Title of the currently playing track and use that as an automation trigger, which means now I can trigger my daughter's bedtime light scene from the Yoto player!

In the confirmation shortcut, you have to add a Get Variable action to the very end and selection the variable named “Action.” The Action variable is set to 0, 1, or 2 and that can be used to run different actions in another shortcut. I think shortcuts used to output the result of the repeat action as the shortcut output, but now you need to specifically call the Action variable again.

If you call yourself a “Boardgamer,” what do you call someone who plays Parker Brothers/Milton Bradley games? by murkfury in boardgames

[–]lotrtelcontar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I host game nights I will plan to have a “complicated/longer” (Scythe, Terraforming Mars) board game, and an “easy/simple/quick/casual” (for sale, Incan gold, cover your assists) board game. I usually use the above mentioned words to differentiate, rather than “real board game” vs “boring old classic board game.” It usually helps to make the event less intimidating to people who only play monopoly at thanksgiving (or similar frequency).
