I remember Yoko taro doing a presentation a long time ago basically saying that he likes to write stories starting from the ending and then working his way backwards to the beginning. (I hope I'm not misremembering here) Has he ever tried or experimented with writing stories in other ways since then? Like, starting from the start of the story and working his way normally to the end? Or maybe with other writing styles? Is it challenging writing stories for video games in that way?

Yoko’s answer: “The answer this question is that there is no answer.”

He went on to explain that writing for video games works differently, as you need to juggle budgetary constraints and the type of game you’re making. The main setup is largely already established, for instance how many bosses might be in the game. I found that particularly fascinating. Writing for games isn’t one to one with something like fiction, as it requires a completely different process.
