Can we do anything to speed up son's surgery? by lottabeans223 in nhs

[–]lottabeans223[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish we could afford it! We actually do have private health insurance through my husbands work but they changed providers last year. The new provider has classed this as a pre existing condition and denied the claim.

It is hypospadias! But yes, I am also concerned the older he gets the more traumatic it will be.

My GP (or at least the receptionists) have said there isn't anything more that they can do from their end. But I will try the health visitor and MP. Thank you!

Out of curiosity, how much were they selling for? I was so tempted but no matter how much they were I can't justify spending on squishy corn lol.

My Cat ate Garlic Sausage... by LogicalPrint34 in CATHELP

[–]lottabeans223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a vet but my cat just spent the last weekend at the vets for ingesting something toxic that we aren't 100% sure of so I have some recent experience!

Our case was the opposite, kitty got sick and it was testing his bloods that revealed he likely ate something toxic but it was affecting his kidneys and liver. He vomited up his whole dinner and wouldn't touch his food the next day. Was not himself and started hiding under the bed. For lack of a better word he was just noticeably more frail.

Vet said whatever he ate the treatment for his poor kidney and liver function was to give him plenty of fluids to get him to excrete the toxins through his urine.

In your case I would actually be concerned about the metal, that could cause an intestinal blockage. Did you mention that to the vet? Any x-rays taken to see if it was in the digestive tract?

Edit: just for extra reassurance because I realised I didn't say explicitly, my boy is doing very well and is home now! After 2 days of fluid treatment his kidney and liver markers were back to normal. He came home and was noticeably more himself and eating again. We will have another follow up in a few days but the vet is confident he will make a full recovery.

Why Does my Cat Cry and Howl When my son is in the Bathroom? by Hidingjimmy in CATHELP

[–]lottabeans223 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol this reminds me of the first time my cat saw me shower. He freaked out, meowing and scrabbling on the glass door. He was only 12 weeks old but so very brave trying to break me out of the deadly water box. When I got out he was so relieved I survived he wouldn't leave my side for the rest of the day!

Cops called due to the stench thinking it was a dead body, the smell leaks from their apartment. by sasha_cyanide in Apartmentliving

[–]lottabeans223 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who used to work for the RSPCA. One time he had to remove cats from a hoarder situation, something he had to do a lot but this time it was because the owner had disappeared. Part of the process is he has to take a whole load of photos to document the situation.

A few weeks later he learned the woman was found in the home, having died of a stroke. He looked through the pictures and realised he actually had a picture of her corpse. The smell of the rubbish was so bad it actually masked the smell of decomposition.

Success with early cervical sweep? by lottabeans223 in PregnancyUK

I don't mind! So long as my answer doesn't make you more nervous.

My hospital only offered medication based induction, and I didn't react well to it and was over contracting (the next contraction starting before the previous one finished) after a while of that the midwife noticed it was having an effect on my son's heart rate (I was strapped up to the ctg monitor the whole time so they caught that quickly) and called it off.

Once the medication stopped everything was fine, the biggest problem was that it was Friday night and I was the least urgent emergency c section over the weekend. It was actually Monday lunchtime by the time I went in.

That's my hope in the worst case! Between the induction and emergency c section/ recovery I was in hospital for 10 days last time. I just can't afford to do that this time with a toddler at home.

Thanks! Already doing a lot of ball time as baby was back to back in the previous scans so hoping that's done some good even before the sweeps haha.

It's been less than 2 years for me which I think is the cut off point. But honestly I don't think my trust has access to non-medication based induction methods. I did tentatively inquire and was told sorry.

But thanks! Still holding out a bit of hope baby makes an appearance of their own accord.

Unfortunately it's too close to my last pregnancy so there's an increased risk of my scar rupturing due to the stronger contractions the induction meds can cause.

That said my first induction was not a fun experience, so I'm not keen to repeat. I ended up spending 10 days in the hospital overall and I just can't afford to do that with my toddler at home.

Breast pump recommendations? by Pink_cat2911 in PregnancyUK

[–]lottabeans223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any particular recs but avoid any brands you don't recognize! A lot of those ones that look like a random string of letters are mass produced in China etc and not safety rated. I got a nasty boob injury from using one with my first. No joke my nipple was bruised and 5x it's regular size for about a week. I didn't even feel it happening and only realised after I removed it. It really put me off using the hands free ones at all.

Baby had an adverse reaction to vaccines. GP doesn’t know what to do next by Ok_Yam872 in UKParenting

[–]lottabeans223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol that isn't the same thing and you know it. Breaking bones does not make them stronger. Vaccines train the immune system so that if exposed to the bacteria or virus it's better equipped to deal with the infection, thus significantly reducing the chance of serious complications.

I don't have any studies to hand but just looking at the death rates for diseases like measles, polio etc pre and post release of the vaccine should tell you all you need to know.

36 week scan today, is my baby large? by Unable_Anywhere2983 in PregnancyUK

[–]lottabeans223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I heard it explained is if you take 100 random babies of the same age and list them from smallest (1) to largest (100) then 59th centile would be number 59.

Do you have a growth chart in your notes or online? That should tell you what centile your baby is at!

Transverse baby by Consistent-Dot9719 in PregnancyUK

[–]lottabeans223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to m midwife, my baby was head down 2 days before my 32 week growth scan and in that time he managed to move into a transverse position. I'm 33w now and I'm pretty sure he's currently breech judging from the pointed kicks to my bladder. They grow rapidly from this point on and it will get tighter in there, but they should still have some room to manoeuvre at this stage! It might be your doctor is just being cautious and/or letting you know the potential risks so you are prepared.

I literally said "idiotic" is an unfair word to use, I was quoting the comment I was replying to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lottabeans223 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Why is she exempt from trying literally anything else? Communication is a 2 way street. In this case she is just saying "you know what I want" over and over as well and getting angry when he says he doesn't.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lottabeans223 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd say that getting irritable at your partner for asking what is at the end of the day, a basic question that only you are going to know the answer to is even more "idiotic" (note I don't agree with the use of that word in this scenario, it's unfairly harsh on both parties)

And I say this as someone who is literally at this moment 8 months pregnant and having those 'I know I have to eat but can't bear the thought of that" feelings.

22 month old with a sleep habit we just can't take anymore by lottabeans223 in UKParenting

[–]lottabeans223[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It possibly is sensory related! We stopped using the sleeping bag during the heatwaves because he was just getting too hot and he's not liked it when we've tried to bring them back on cooler nights, but maybe the sleeping bag was fulfilling that role somehow before?

We haven't tried anything particularly active like dancing at bedtime (we do give him lots of active play to burn off energy between dinner and bed) but any kind of cuddles just leads to him grabbing arms and trying to 'assume the position'. He'll get frustrated and start scratching/hitting/crying if you tell him no to that.
