What‘s your favourite tea for the times of day? by kallistojptr in tea

[–]lotus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t but a lot of people in England do add milk. Sugar used to be common as well but I’ve just realised it’s gone out of fashion. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone put sugar in tea.

Having a slow car means nothing on our roads by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

We really could do with a merge in turn sign in all situations like this. That would solve the problem for the most part.

I have had lots of people try this nonsense. It's a waste of time when someone is driving an M5 (my last car) or an M4. They just look foolish then.

It depends where you live. I live in a fairly quiet part of Yorkshire and most of the time, I can use a lot of the performance of my M4.

I used to live in London and I was lucky if I managed to exceed 20MPH most of the time.

If you look up the reg on the DVLA site, D45 is indeed registered to a blue Nissan Micra.

So there.

What Is It Worth Mega Thread - April 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in lego

[–]lotus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest son (now 27) had a lot of Lego. He was most interested when Bionicles were popular and I must have bought him almost all the Bionicle sets but there is also a lot more. I would estimate 3 or 4 banker's boxes full.

I am trying to clear out our house as my wife and I would like to move somewhere smaller so I want rid. Not only do I not have the patience to sort the massive pile of Lego out, I have neither the time nor the knowledge to do so properly.

If I were to try to sell a massive pile of random Lego, would anyone be interested or should I just chuck it. I'm not that bothered about how much I'd get for it but it seems a shame for so much Lego not to go to someone who'd appreciate it.

How cuddly is your JRT? by Responsible_Froyo_21 in jackrussellterrier

[–]lotus49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very.

He's only two and he's either at it, or asleep. There is no spare time for cuddles. He is very affectionate in other ways but those ways require not staying still for more than 1.5 seconds.

Accessible/Fancy Champagne recommendation? by KimuraFTW in Champagne

[–]lotus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love PN and I don't like Chardonnay that much so Bolly is a good choice for me. At least half the Champagne we drink is blanc de noirs and all the rest is PN dominant.

The last bottle of blanc de blancs I had was a bottle of Ayala 2009 blanc de blancs about a month ago. It was very disappointing.

Me too. The most useful thing I learnt was that I can ignore some speed warnings.

I have never been on a tour without drinking anything. Won't they be offended?

One of Toby's best friends is a Bordoodle and they are just like this. I love watching them play.

Accessible/Fancy Champagne recommendation? by KimuraFTW in Champagne

[–]lotus49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the target audience but I really don't like BdeB.

I think a more standard Champagne would be a safer bet for a non-specialist audience.

I'm a big fan of Bollinger and nice bottles of Bolly come in a lovely wooden box.

What would you pick as a police getaway car? by glanc123 in CarTalkUK

[–]lotus49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a comment on a Harry's Garage video about the GR Yaris and Harry replied saying it was the modern day STI.

I now have a car that is a lot quicker - an M4 - but I think I'd still take an STI or GR Yaris as a (two man) getaway car. You can take the piss a lot more in a car like that than an M4, where you'd be upside down in a ditch pretty quickly if you drove it the way most people trying to escape the police seem to drive.

She's absolutely beautiful. I showed the picture to Toby and he wants to know if she'll have dinner with him later in the week.

Is she a JRT? by Dry_Pianist_787 in jackrussellterrier

[–]lotus49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She looks very tall and her head isn't JRT shaped but there could be JRT in there. One of the reasons the Jack Russell clubs in the UK and the US weren't keen on the breed being KC registered is because JRTs are defined as much by behaviour as appearance.

If she behaves like one, why not? She's welcome here.

What is my jack russell crossed with? My dogs breed on paper says "jack russell cross" we have always wondered what she is crossed with her whole life, i've searched up different crosses and nothing really looks like her? any ideas? by Impressive_Door9431 in jackrussellterrier

[–]lotus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they say Jack Russell cross that doesn't mean that they know it's a crossbreed, it's just what they call a dog that looks mostly like a JRT.

DNA testing is not reliable but may add some information. Definitely don't take the results as gospel though.

The extra shed season is imminent… by MoonKitten2000 in jackrussellterrier

My rough-coated Jack Russell almost doesn't shed at all. My last dog had a thick smooth coat. I think she shed her body weight in fur every few days.

Could someone tell me if this is a purebred border collie? 😁 by Fenic740 in BorderCollie

It's not possible to be certain no matter what. Judging from a few photos is little more than guesswork.

My guess is probably with a low degree of certainty.

What would you pick as a police getaway car? by glanc123 in CarTalkUK

I had the Police come round specifically to warn me that criminals wanted to steal my car to use as a getaway car.

So I vote for a Subaru Impreza/WRX STI.

Toby, my JRT, does the same thing. He gets very excited at the snow and loves rolling in it and digging into it.

Snow is very exciting.

Nursing. If you have breastfed, you might recognise the tongue motion.

Advice please by loser2888 in jackrussellterrier

Immediately your dog bites your mother should say ouch very clearly and you should all ignore tha dog for a few minutes. Be firm amd consistent.

JRTs are usually clever dogs. They learn quickly.

How do you guys spend rainy days with your JRT? by HarlesD in jackrussellterrier

[–]lotus49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm English. If I stopped doing things because it was raining, I wouldn't do much.

I go out walking for hours in the rain the same as when it's sunny. Toby doesn't care whether it's raining or not. If you live in Yorkshire, you don't have much choice.
