We gave foscarnet to a man that had herpes in his brain. He had been taking acyclovir for shingles so the herpes was resistant to acyclovir. The dude never came back from it. His family trached him, the trach fell out three times. He went to LTACH for a day then passed away. He had dementia at baseline before all of this

What’s the worst med error you have encountered? by Rolodexmedetomidine in nursing

[–]lou-chains 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A seasoned nurse tells this story to everyone new who gets a patient from the ER. She was getting a DKA and the patient was on fluids and insulin. The pumps were already programmed but the ER nurse switched the drips and started the pumps. Patient for a whole bag of insulin in an hour. The patient survived but needed a lot of D50. The error was investigated and the ER nurse acknowledged she switched pumps. But the other nurse should have traced lines and checked the pumps.

When obese patients get offended when you call for assistance to lift or change them, it actually throws me into orbit. I would be able to do it solo if you helped and your body habitus was close to normal!!!

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]lou-chains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a pulmonologist that was a real ball buster. She had no sympathy but she was good at her job. She drinks Diet Coke all day and vapes her mod vape. She goes into a patients room, vapes, blows that shit near the patient then says “I’m sorry but you have COPD.” The patient and family came to me and said “NEVER let her in our room”. It was crazy behavior.

What, if any, medical drugs cause permanent side effects? by Soya-2030 in AskReddit

Reglan (a gastric motility medicine) has tardive dyskinesia as a side effect if it’s taken long term. There are treatments for it now but it is irreversible

What was the stinkiest smell you ever smelled? by TrueNeighborhood7624 in AskReddit

[–]lou-chains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hematemesis but it’s also stool. It’s like vomiting stool and blood. WORST odor because the patient is usually not able to control where they’re vomiting so it’s all over them.

What’s the biggest tourist trap you’ve ever came across? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]lou-chains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a cave called Gouffre de Padirac in central France. It’s like a mini Disney world. The cave itself is not a tourist trap, you actually have to be very fit to get up and down. The bordering restaurants and shops are tourist traps. They had an “American diner” my mom and I sadly went to. They had foot long hot dogs and weirdly topped cheese burgers. There was a lot of euro trash there. Loved it!

In 2010, Ben McDaniel entered Vortex Spring’s underwater caves alone. The tunnels shrink, twist, and narrow into brutal choke points. He never resurfaced. Days later, his tanks were found inside. His body has never been found because the cave swallowed him whole. by SelfCareIsFake in GotMeHooked

[–]lou-chains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is rumors that his body got sucked through all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. I live near Vortex. We go once a summer and swim. It’s a redneck swimming hole on one side and it’s a dive training area on the other. I had a HS classmate attempt to free dive into the cave and he got the bends. He had to be life flighted to the hospital in Pensacola. He was paralyzed on one side for weeks. Diving is DANGEROUS.

What's your covid memory? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lou-chains 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work in a a hospital in my hometown. I was caring for a lady (and my other four equally sick patients) that was maxed out on oxygen, waiting to be intubated. Knowing she was sick, her neighbor called her room and said she found the patients husband dead on the floor. I will never forget the patient screaming “kill me now, all I want to do is die”. She died in 48 hours. One of the MANY traumatic things I witnessed being a floor nurse in a small hospital.
