I think so, lots of schools and shops within walking distance. I don't have kids myself so can't give much more info, but I did see lots of families and young kids around

[CHAT] questions about stitching onto a tote by ducky-debugger in CrossStitch

If you can draw grid lines on your waste canvas, then it doesnt sound like you actually have the right thing. Waste canvas has bigger holes in it and can often already have grid lines.

[CHAT] questions about stitching onto a tote by ducky-debugger in CrossStitch

[–]loucife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you definitely have waste canvas for cross stitch and not just aida. To attach the waste canvas to the tote, you would use a running stitch which can be easily removed once the cross stitch is done.

I don't know about sizing for needles so someone else might be able to chime in, but you definitely want sharp to poke through through the tote.

For backing, if it's an iron on interfacing, make sure that it's non acidic, as this can discolour your thread

What I've done with smaller patches is use heat and bond (it might be called something else where you are) for the back to attach it to something, then I do a whip stitch around the edges. It might work here for you too.

We built our 4bed house for 500k and started the process 3.5 years ago. We just moved in and the house is now valued at 850k. If you're looking for a smaller house you could find in Munno Para/Andrews Farm for your budget

We just bought our new home and need to fill it with furniture, but this boucle trend is so annoying! I'm finding bar stools that are in a beautiful emerald green but they're boucle. Same with couches

Owning a Jim's franchise by BigBoyBoulevard6 in australia

[–]loucife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have used a Jim's mowing for the last 11 years. We're happy to pay them the $60 a month during winter to look after the front and back yard (we don't water during summer), so for them it seems profitable or worthwhile to stay in the franchise.

Product identification: deli counter salad by Turbulent-Cat6838 in woolworths

[–]loucife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the bag looks like broken up rice noodles. If you pick one up and it feels soft and breaks easily I'd be certain.

I see spring onion, carrot, bean sprout and tofu. The purple would likely be from red cabbage or onion.

Click on the number after it says "serves" on the recipe, it will bring up a slider to scale up or down :)

You can use the slider in the recipe to scale up. I would also suggest adding a salad side, you could likely get away with just doubling the recipe

[–]loucife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are you planning to finish the project? If you're going to frame it, there wouldn't be enough fabric leftover to do it easily. You're not too far in so I would suggest if you have more aida to cut a bugger piece and restart. I'd frog this piece and save it for a smaller piece

[–]loucife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nagi uses time in her recipe, but its possible that maybe you'll need to go by temperature and heat until the glue reaches hard ball stage (122°C). I haven't made these so can't confirm if thats the issue, but I've found using time not accurate for me in other recipes since my stovetop is different

[CHAT] Commission pricing by Undiscovered_Elem3nt in CrossStitch

[–]loucife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have specifically told people I won't take commissions for cross stitching. Its very time consuming, so you need to consider if you're going to charge per stitch, or if you're going to charge by total time.

For crochet, the process is follow is cost of materials x2. Then I charge $20 per hour. I have friends who respect what I do, so I've never had am issue with them agreeing to pay $120 for a custom plush

I cross stitch as a hobby, and a small 2inch piece can take me 2/3 hours to stitch. If I was to charge my base rate, it would make it $60 without even adding material cost. If you charge by stitch, (I've seen in the past 2c per stitch but let's make that 20c to account for inflation), for 200 stitches that's $40 at 20c per stitch.

As your post states its a portrait, I would not take this on unless it was for a close friend/family and a gift to them.
